There are some new innovative proof of burn coins which use a new way of mining coins and they have yet to be added to this list.

Maybe a noob question, but how can a cryptocoin die? Is it if the value is zero, is it if no one mines it anymore? because if people stop mining it, you could pick up mining again later and 'revive' the coin.

I can't even keep track of all the alt coins since so much of them are released all at the same time. Some new ones like mastercoin, protoshares, vertcoin are actually good ones but I have never heard of them until now. I never seen them released because there is so much spam coins released at the same time that it is impossible for me to find coins or even keep up with all of the ones being released.

A coin that nobody mines is technically not dead, right, but a coin can be dead because of a bug that nobody bothers to fix. Also you can consider coins dead when they reach 1% of their maximum hash rate or make up any other measure to declare it dead. After all, death is relative

Why is this stickied? This is historical information. And it's so subjective, I mean what exactly separates major/noticeable/big and so on.
It seems like if it's going to be stickied then the OP should drop the last two categories (impossible at this point) and at least keep the rest up to date.

This was updated in January. Can we please unpin it and replace it with something by someone who cares? Also the bias is beyond stupid.
Thank you.
