Status Update - Including BTER Statement

These past few weeks have been a roller coaster ride, with Lisk rapidly growing and collecting over 5.7M USD while being the 2nd most successful crypto-crurency crowdfunded project. Smiley

Here's an update on where we stand:

https://blog.lisk.io/status-update-our-next-steps-71ac5521d4b6#.zoqwon6l8

At present, many organizations have started to have a keen interest in China block chain, if you can get China area cooperation in exchange for the project, it is undoubtedly a huge boost, because Chinese has a very huge market prospects

Regarding Logo Contests

Since Lisk is going to be a company now, it may not be a smart idea to have a logo contest.. it's a method frowned upon in the industry.
It would be fine if Lisk was going to be a small business for life, but having a huge ICO and all the support just makes it look bad with a logo contest..

Agreed.

You need to keep in mind, that this is not about a logo, but about a corporate identity. This is a lot of work: Logo, website, wallet, etc. needs to fit. If you want to do it right, you can't pull that off alone, you need a team working closely together. I don't see that happening by making a logo contest.

Yahoo baby, very cool.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/lisk-raises-over-5-7-164800437.html

You can follow me at: @LISKCrypto_Fan
Just starting to get the Twitter account setup.  I will be interested in setting up a delegate as well.

Very nice.  Great to see a non-bitcoin centered online news site report this.  There are a few more weeks of press to collect.  Smiley

It doesn't need to be that complicated.

Edit:

I'm not putting this up as a logo suggestion, just trying to show that it doesn't need to be complicated, in fact it's probably better when it isn't.

I'm also from the Philippines, but bro we should accept that China does have a huge market potential. Lisk needs all of the countries, as much as crypto does.

Let's have peace here, if not in real life Smiley

Let me just make a few general comments and observations.
Lots of people are talking about becoming delegates.  This is good.
Many of these are saying (in one way or another), "Vote for me and I will give you a cut of the rewards" or "I won't vote for anybody that doesn't give me a cut of forging rewards".  This is bad.
The first job of a Lisk Active Delegate is SECURE THE LISK BLOCKCHAIN.  Not make money for themselves.  Not make money for others.  SECURE THE LISK BLOCKCHAIN.
Hi, Mal! What if we cooperate to SECURE THE LISK BLOCKCHAIN and more. We could make reward from delegates more useful for Lisk ecosystem donating them for "DAPP Contest" ran by us and all who will be inspired and joined to us.
I would like to see something like "Delegates Rewards for Dapps Developing" cooperation.
https://forum.lisk.io/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=111&p=322#p322

I am struck with irony about how this delegate conversation is going.

Max set up the DPoSWFR (Delegated Proof of Stake With Forging Rewards) system in Lisk for only one reason: offer people rewards so they will be motivated to set up nodes!

Now more and more people are saying they want to set up nodes so they can give the rewards away!  To a pool of voters!  To a Dapp contest reward!  Sooner or later it will be to a charity....or did I already see that?

How is DPoSWFR a motivator to run a node if everybody gives the reward away?  If so many people are so willing to run a node with no personal reward, I say again that Lisk would be better off with NO forging rewards and instead rely on 101 unpaid volunteers to secure the Lisk blockchain.

Volunteer unpaid nodes would avoid a whole lot of jealousy that's coming like a thunderstorm on the horizon.  When Lisk hits $10 each like Ethereum, running a node is going to be worth $300K+ to $1.5M per year for Active Delegates, and $0 per year for Standby Delegates.  I predict DPoSWFR is eventually going to become quite a shitstorm, and all of it just to pay for a $5 per month Vultr VPS.

amanai, if you're going to give your node reward away, a "Dapp contest" is a very worthy cause to support.

i have to agree. it seems to have become a bit of a pissing contest on who can give BACK the most in their rewards.
kinda screws it for anyone wanting the initial outcome, a bit of extra personal profit ;\

Yeah, funny.

It seems to me that a contest would be a good idea. It would also be something that could be milked publicity-wise over the course of a few weeks rather than just one press release saying that "Lisk has changed it's logo"... yawn.....

Lisk is decentralised, perhaps other parts of the operation should be too?

True that. I personally have no intention of giving away the reward if ever I were to be voted as an active delegate, as I myself am a DApp developer and have big usage for the forging rewards like testing, promotion and compensation for myself as well.. Instead of giving part of the reward I can always just donate from my own pocket whenever an event comes up regarding DApp Development

Apart from that I can also give advice to other DApp Developers and join other teams, and of course recruit people for my team as well!

BTW, Lin is not China, there are still good Chinese out there

The quoted Link conveniently mixes up logos and complete rebrands. What do you think coca-cola and nike pay for all the other design stuff besides the logo? To be honest, I have no idea. But it's not gonna stay at 0-35 bucks.

I don't know if you have ever seen a design manual for a company. That stuff looks like quantum physics.
Trust me: Making it look "not complicated" actually is a lot of work.

If you run a logo contest for publicity , you'd still need someone to make all the other stuff, and it would need to fit the new logo…

Of course not, that's a ridiculous statement. No one is suggesting running a t-shirt supplier competition. It's just a competition for the design itself.

You are conflating two different discussions.

Quote

Trust me: Making it look "not complicated" actually is a lot of work.

It needs to look good, be memorable and fit with the focus of the organisation - where's the quantum physics in that?

Quote

If you run a logo contest for publicity , you'd still need someone to make all the other stuff, and it would need to fit the new logo…

Of course you have to find someone to make the other stuff... are you suggesting doing the whole thing with just one provider, come hell or high water? I don't know what "fit the new logo", means...

All this crap about manuals and the like is just stuff created to keep people in their jobs - things are rarely as complicated as professionals like to make out, except quantum physics and coding, I imagine.

The answer to your Nike question is $35, Twitter paid $15 for theirs.

There is a lot of talent on these forums in all kinds of subjects, including art based ones - I think it should be utilised.

I'll say no more.

We're LISK actually exchanged for these XCR?
If so, I assume balances should be increasing to reflect those LISK being returned to other investors.

Or was no LISK actually exchanged?

As previously stated, we will likely rebrand completely, but this will come later.

I realize that Devs are busy preparing for a smooth launch, but I think it's crucial that they rebrand now before the launch and before the media and news outlets PROPAGATE the current logo across the internet.

Another important thing to consider is CONFUSION; I've seen many people get confused on exchanges and other crypto services (i.e. ShapeShift) because they keep looking for the wrong coin icon. (Remember late rebrandings of Dash/Darkcoin/Reddcoin etc. ?)

For inspiration; I'm sharing some logos that:

  • 1. Emphasize Dapps diversity on Lisk Dapp store with multiple colors.
  • 2. User friendly colors (think Google Play / Apple store /Microsot app store colors...).
  • 3. Recognizable "L" symbol on exchanges and everywhere like Bitcoin & Litecoin logos (Ethereum diamond logo is just NOT recognizable).[/b]
  • 4. Stand out from the rest of the cryptocurrencies logos, because Lisk is special.

I will go on record and say those are not eye catching by any means...
