I'm not sure this answers your specific question, but the design already allows the job author to set multiple iterations which provide bounties as well as specific criteria for what qualifies as a bounty for each iteration.  once all bounties for an iteration is done the miners all move  to the next iteration

Well, I didn't have a specific question per se, I was just thinking aloud, especially the part about memory. A computer consists of a processor and data storage. We are focussing on the processing part, which is cool, but there is the memory part as well, which needs attention.

the simplest solution would be to make it the job authors responsibility to somehow provide the needed data, essentially working as a kind of RAM in which miners can check for relevant data.

However, even with a memory system in place, there may be scenarios, in which miners have little to no incentive to use this memory.

Let's take a look at the bruteforcing a password job. I'm not saying that this is something, Elastic should be used for, and you are welcome to provide a different example, but this specific job shows Elastics shortcomings pretty well:

It is pretty much throwing random input into a function and running it until a single solution is found. There aren't multiple solutions, just one. This greatly affects how miners behave:

Miners have no incentive to share information about which inputs they already tested, because they don't want to give other miners an edge. This means, that in a worst-case scenario, many inputs are tested by multiple miners, effectively lessening Elastics power.

I'm sorry that I'm rambling.

i see what you are saying but that is no different than how all mining works now...also it is not a limitation in elastic but the miner.  a pool could easily be setup to ensure the unique work is done by all miners in the pool.

But either way...a lot of this depends on how well the author codes the job.

Edit: please keep in mind that the miner i wrote is just a proof on concept to demo all the functionality.  It is expected that is thers will come along and improve on the design, make hardware specific optimizations, etc

Another thing. If compute part of Elastic will be ready you can earn coins by computing. So if you offer your CPU/RAM to network you can earn XEL.

What I need to know is what is the likelihood I'll be able to offer the computing power of my college's cloud network to XEL? And what are the odds I'd be caught/kicked out of school for it?

At this rate XEL in relation to BTC would have to be traded at 187k satoshi (0,00187) to be at the same value as Golem is today. Just remember that XEL have 100M coins, Golem 825M. It means that largest whale in XEL (6M XEL) will be at ~11k BTC value. If XEL somehow will be valued at this rate as Golem today XEL donators will be at 200x profit (depends on donation timeline. Early donators will be even at >x300 profit) ... Quite hard to imagine for me but maybe I'm too crypto-young. What I'm sure at the moment is that some trading/hand switch should help XEL with further distribution. But most of my hopes goes to early cheap trading (around 2x profit, I'm sure that there will be some guys that will sold at this rate) and that some experienced developers will catch XEL and join community to help building open-source cryptocurrency driven supercomputer.

Good points. But it's interesting that so far " Pure Speculation " has put Golem in such value, while we all know that XEL is a functioning coin ( although Litewallet won't reflect it at this time). Also there's a very big possibility that we only have 50M coins (as we saw from several votings) IMHO

Also remember that GNT is highly associated with ETH so naturaly GNT attracts great amount of people/investors from ETH community. It's something we don't have (support from bigger friend) and we have to create valuable network ourself.

It's highly impossible for us to start mainnet at this date. Even if @EK finish his work with litewallet today I need some time (about week or two) to test everything. I already booked two days off my work to focus only on launching XEL but I can't take more atm. So if everything goes fine I think that litewallet will be live some day in June.

Just a stupid question. Will there be a lite wallet running on a 32bit Windows or will there be the need to install docker on the 64bit like for the full client? Not sure if I missed sth here :-(
