The Ethereum price is too volatile after the DAO hack. For the small traders, it is better to stay away, at least for now.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

That is right. The price is well controlled. It dropped a lot in the last few days. Now it has risen a lot again.

IMO it's rising now due to a soft fork solution has been supported by the community.
They now have an option to get the funds back without a hard fork

Hah... ETH's not good for a trader with low amount because ETH price is so high and anytime can get the decrease. you're right better to stay away from ETH if only have a low amount.

Indeed. It's reassuring to see how the ETH community is pulling together.

Can they get the 3.6 million stolen from the hacker back without using the hard fork? I thought soft fork just freeze the funds.

They get the funds from the hacker, the hacker gets it back again, is there never ending loop? I thought there is 27 day freeze period.

28 days. And this allows for a resolution to be implemented at this time, and any other time such attack happens.

If all the DAO has been moved once now, can they can be moved again within 28 days? If not, we will have a quite period of 25 to 28 days.

Each movement takes 28 days. DAO funds are not released until after a 28 day period. So each movement gives us all an additional 28 day window.

Does it mean we have to do soft fork every 28 days? It is very inconvenient for the miners. Hope they will find a better solution.

The solution will be to dissolve the DAO and return the DAO to the investors. I hope there will be no problem in the process.

No, they only ne4ed to soft-fork once. The soft fork will permanently freeze any Ether in The DAO and all of its clones (children.)

Does it apply to the hacked the DAO only or to the "rescued" DAO as well? If later, they will another fight to get it back.

It applies to the hacked DAO and all its clones. That's why the folks involved are pushing hard for a hard fork that would replace all DAO instances of code with simple withdrawal contracts. If that hard fork goes through, all of them will be emptied and the ETH recovered.

I think the soft fork will go up after the soft fork bug is removed. I am not sure about the hard fork to be implemented.

Too much %$#^* going on at the moment, I would advise not to jump in before SF/HF solutions are fixed.

That is right. I will stand on the sideline for the next few weeks. If the SF/HF is implemented properly, I will buy more.
