It has been a long time since I manually setup any miner.
Does S9 allow direct access through ethernet cable and 192.168.1.99 IP address like S1 and S3 did?
If yes, then it does not work for me.
Accidentally, which setting do you put for laptop IP and router IP in case if it should work still?
I put
192.168.1.1 for laptop and
192.168.0.1 for router (or should it be 192.168.1.0 for router?)

I have a particular reason to try this, I am well aware that if you connect S9 to the internet, it would situate itself just fine on DHCP.

Thanks.

If you connect the miner directly to your laptop, set your laptop to an IP in the range of 169.254.0.0 to 169.254.255.255, subnet mask 255.255.0.0. Without DHCP server both the miner and the laptop will auto acquire an IP in that range.

Not sure why the "moderator" is deleting messages though it is related to the subject. It is a forum after all and people provide opinion and help each other. There are like 8 messages missing when I have checked today.

What was of topic with this message:

Sorry I know this has been discussed many times on here but I can't find it on this thread, but just have 3 questions.

1. At what temperatures should my S9's be constantly steady at? Does this look right at all?
2. Is it possible these asics can last more than a 2 year lifespan with great maintenance?
3. Should I change my Estimated Payout period from 0.01 to 0.1 due to pool fees at pool

1- I try to keep mine below 80. Averaging 75. But no matter how low I go with the cooling (mine are in 20 deg), the fans are not going below 3700is rpm.
2- 50/50 but it is possible. I have a T9 running since the 1st release, running non stop with the same PSU. Keep away from dust and humidity. Open the miner every now and then and clean the dust.
3- it is up to you. but the higher the payment are, the lower you pay fees.

All my messages from the previous several days have been deleted...

Same here. Hmmm unfortunate. It had good info and it was about mining. I read an analyst report and it suggested 30-40% prepaid wafers by bitmain had been deployed. This is on in may.

So, I guess they still have to dump machines due to too much prepaid wafers, probably ordered in error during the times when the S9s sold out in 2 mins when released lol. Hopefully it gets cleared soon and no more wafer over-orders occur. The Z9 now becomes a 2 for 1 lol. They wanna clear the wafers that bad.

Maybe now 60-70% of wafers have been cleared?

Selling 100 dollar coupons (8units expire 11th June, 14 units expire 1st july) and 125 dollar coupon (2 unit exp 30th June). Selling at 20% of value

In one of my installation, board temperatures are in the range of 82-89 C. Ambient temperature is about 36-40 C, real hot due to summer at the moment. They run fine, occasionally hitting the upper limit and idle.

S9 will not profit soon ?

S9 would not profit if your daily operating cost is above USD0.13/kWh, just enough to cover operating cost / break-even to cover electricity/cooling etc.

See example below :-

(TH/s) / Opex (USD/kWH) / Profit (USD/D)
13.5 / 0.10 / 1.43
13.5 / 0.11 / 1.04
13.5 / 0.12 / 0.66
13.5 / 0.13 / 0.27
13.5 / 0.14 / -0.11

* Assumptions : Current yield of USD0.39/(TH/s), power of 1580 Watt/S9.

That doesnt look good. If the 13cents guys gets taken out, it will be the 12 and 11 cents guys next Sad

Hopefully bitmain clears their backlog of wafer orders soon and does not over-order again. I believe that is the issue here. The new entrant GMO with their new 24TH for 1950watt miner at 1999 USD just cant compete at that price and I doubt they can price it much lower to compete. Bitcoin price increase would be great too.

Tweezers doesn't heat solder and resolder the balls back on...

You know hes actually correct. Heat gun and tweezers is the official bitmain way. That is what they teach you in the training courses, which I have been through.

They say it is faster and much more cost effective than using a machine. They actually showed me thier chip placing machine(cant for the life of me remember its actual name) onsite, covered and put away because they just dont use it.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

S9s only pull arond 1400w, so you might want to revise your numbers.

^^ and depending on the model and temps, s9 power draw can be as low as 1250W (s9 batch-1 uc to 550MHz producing 12.75THs)

Heat gun will just damage the chips if not done properly. A rework station does not cost all that much and you can also place it 100% in the correct spot everytime and not have to worry about get solder on other pins and damaging the chip from over heating.

You have no protection with sending BTC, also it's against E-Bay's policy.  Also the seller can say you never paid, so he never shipped.  Because you have no paypal record.  SCAM

Need little advise, thanks.

Below pica showing a S9 frying the cables of the power supply.

- There are no issue with the boards, I opened and checked.
- the hashing boards sockets are brown because of the PSU plugs that are overheating
- Both miner and CPU are working fine, however the PSU cables at the hash boards are super hot and getting brown, some are black.
- Replaced the PSU with a new one, cables are getting hot. It is fine for now but with time it will go brown.

This miner is running since 2 years non stop.

Any advise?
thanks.

I agree, but as a business owner I would not buy such machine for the repair shop, unnecessary expense...
However, if I was an engineer at that shop, I would ask my boss about this machine every day
Just different perspectives Wink

It is not an unnecessary expense. They is litteraly one of the main tools for any logic board repair. It is a vaccum that picks up the chip. A camera and a laser so it can properly align it and place it properly. A heating element getting the solder the the proper temp for the proper amount of time. You make it sound like this is something like only intel uses. When your xbox has a red ring this is the machine they use when your gpu is having artifcats this what they use etc etc.

It's fee advoidance, I would rather have the security of paypal when your box with a brick shows up.  Then pay with BTC and have no recourse.

As people been sayin "Once you go black you never go back..."
hehehe

I would just remove plastic and solder one thing onto another, since it becomes an issue

looking into replacing the PSU cables, so far not lucky with finding good cables online. Also the 6 pin PCIe sockets are easy to replace if found.
