Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's
computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be
reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

But dude, here's what I think the deal is, because of the thermal issues with extracting heat out of a even smaller area, AMD is turning a bug into a feature with their fancy software. Not only do you have a smaller area, the smaller chip has less thermal mass. To get to the point, I don't think that this superduper wonderful software was conceived in a vacuum. Companies are always bandaiding hardware using software. You might blow this chip if the heat output ramps up faster than the cooling can ramp up. So I think the point of the software is to be open regarding how fast and how much you can change stuff.

you can not overclock them with that heatsink, that thing is pure trash, is sitting at 89°, will blow your card on the long run, better to wait for custom design as usual, which would mean paying more than $200

Ive never had an issue with the reference coolers , i have r9 290s that i bought in 2013 that are still going strong, yes they run a bit hot but those cards are my most solid. If theres an issue i will RMA them after a year or so either way i dont plan to OC much just to around 1300 mem to get 27-28 mhs, the bigger the fans and the more OC the more power use anyways. a bigger issue with these ref cards is the six pin power connector, 8 pin would have been better.

A R9 280x at 92 when mining is nothing unusual - it's just the card is a hot running card - and it probably thermal limits around 95ish.
It is actually 102c where it reaches thermal limits and shut down the computer.. tested it I probably should have said "thermal throttles" not "thermal limits". My R9 290 Sapphire Reference cards start throttling at 94, not sure what their shutdown temp is as I don't think they ever reached that. Same here I have a reference card that stays at 94 constantly while mining and throttles down to stay at 94 but I noticed that the system reports the fan at like 40-50% only. Is there some special trick to make the fans go to 80? You can use MSI Afterburner. That's what I use. My fans are blowing at around 50%, for a maximal temperature of 58°C (I have 380, not the cards you mention). I tried MSI Afterburner and they seemed to have no effect on the fan speed of the reference card. I'm guessing the guy that had it before me put some custom firmware on it or something perhaps. Does MSI Afterburner recognise the cards ? If I don't intsall AMD Catalyst, mine aren't detected.

I bet i can overclock the card with that heatsink without any problem. I got over 70 Reference 7950 here with the " small heatsink". They r all running at 1150 core and 1500 mem on ETH over 6 month without any problem. The room temp ist around 30 Celsius = 86 F. All card running @75-80 Celsius. So @ Fanboy Amph u talking to much shit. Just go and play with ur Nvidia toys.

I am afraid so. I wonder at what time it will be available and at which price. I hope that the difference won't be too huge .
