I partially agree with you. Bitcoin seems to have no competition right now and people who said that bitcoin will fail in the coming years have been proved wrong. But in a really rare case if something does happen to bitcoin then I am sure another cryptocurrency will take over. For right now invest in Bitcoin and make profit  Wink

We must accept the truth that nothing is permanent so we might see some alt coin coming up and challenge bitcoin in near future but for that, the alt coin would need a stronger community, stronger potential and wider user base as well as larger market capital and I don’t see any potential in other existing crypto currencies other than bitcoin but no one knows the future.

yess u are right  bitcoin has no competition at all. people will slowly adopt bitcoins because it is the first of its kind and can earn a lot with it no matter how good the other alternate bitcoins may be no body can give a tough competition to bitcoins .it rules the world.
It's not rules of the world. bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency ever made and that's it what make bitcoin is the most popular amongst other cryptocoins. bitcoin will eventually have competition but maybe with another kind of digital currencies and not the cryptocurrencies ones. it's just matter about the time until someone invent it

I dont think so that anyother digital currencies can takeover bitcoin as Bitcoin technology is not belonged to any one of the developer but it is a open source and anyone can compile and mine and use it. Its a open source without any one controlling it. But other coins which ever is in market is controlled by the developer and it has certain limit.

Bitcoin has been steadily losing market cap dominance, from 90%+ just two years ago to ~80% today.

In typical r/btc fashion, you exaggerate.
https://coinmarketcap.com/ shows that the current bitcoin market cap is 86% of the total. Check it out.

I've learnt to fact check you guys at every step these days. Smiley

edit: just saw how old your post was. 'Tis possible you were right back then, but not now.

I think these new cryptocurrencies are starting to hit a bit of a wall due to the network good traits they have. In other words, the more people that adopt one cryptocurrency, the harder it is for another cryptocurrency to get investments and take off as well. I think if cryptocurrencies stick around for a while, bitcoin will likely remain at the top unless another currency does something absolutely revolutionary which changes the game.

I think bitcoin will only permanently remains in the top  , many have tried to change the game but Bitcoin is a really strong cryptocurrency . It is the father of cryptocurrency.

It is a first-come first-served game mostly

There is a grain of truth in your observations, but it's only one half of it. You are correct that new cryptocurrencies hit the wall because they basically have nothing new to offer. But it is not the only way to overcome Bitcoin. Bitcoin seems to be torn apart by inner struggles between developers themselves and developers versus miners. This is where a promising cryptocurrency could hit (instead of hitting the wall). It could do essentially the same as Bitcoin does but be just better organized in a decentralized way by constantly and efficiently adding new features. That would be where Bitcoin heavily sucks today

I don't agree with this opinion that bitcoin doesn't have any competition. I would rather say that every single altcoins are the competitor to the bitcoin if not a threat. Due to the huge numbers of altcoins, bitcoin is not getting the desired amount of investment which is ver much needed to increase the market cap. The investment is getting divided and hence bitcoin price is not increasing as envisaged.

So the competition is not a direct battle, it is indirectly harming bitcoin and its growth. So this way I can say that bitcoin has competition in the market.

Because only bitcoin that had value plus plus and very easy to get access in anywhere. i mean when we want exchange bitcoin to money, averages the exchanger only give best offers to bitcoin not for to altcoin. if the exchanger allowed exchange altcoin to money this mean that altcoin will pair to bitcoin and then to money (altcoin->bitcoin->money). thats why i agree with you "Bitcoin is a really strong cryptocurrency"

Bitcoin dominance continues as its price surge to a high of $915 or even $928 in some price monitoring index gaining 114% for this year. The bitcoin's market capitalization is already reaching the $15 billion mark. Its closest rival is ethereum with $628 million cap.

Bitcoin seems not be particularly responsible for the failures of altcoins

Their failures are mainly because altcoins are either plain copycats offering nothing of interest or just outright scams that aim at gathering as much money as possible at ICO and then leaving investors with useless digits. In this way, any decent altcoin (it sounds like an oxymoron already) will be critically accepted by the majority of users that would obviously try to first pump it and then dump it. It kinda looks like any altcoin aiming high should enable features that would disallow pumping and dumping, at least, initially

apart from being offtopic in here, your comment doesn't make much sense. bitcoin price wasn't minus one million a week or month ago. it was actually pretty high and this rise is not that big despite people saying it is. it is about 17% profit over a couple of weeks after a couple of months of stability.

and i have never seen anybody become a millionaire with 17% profit! unless theya re already a millionaire Cheesy

If you wish to be a millionaire next year, I think you need to have a decent amount of bitcoin with you. Sure,  bitcoin can rally to the sky. But to be a millionaire, you need to have an "x" amount of bitcoins in a wallet that you control.

Ether was shaping up as a major competitor for Bitcoin. But now, it is slowly slipping in to oblivion. What has happened to Litecoin, Namecoin, and Ripple has happened to Ether as well. This is the problem with altcoins. They will stay competitive for at most a year. After that, the promoters will dump these coins and they will lose their value.

It's true Bitcoin has much more publicity then other altcoins but to my opinion still not enough. In fact good publicity and marketing is something that Bitcoin is seriously missing to become more adopted and more popular among common users. Hope this will change in the future.

All those FUDsters that where saying year ago how Bitcoin would fail because another currency would take over get proven wrong year after year. The more time Bticoin is alive, the stronger it gets and the bigger the network effect. Sorry but there will not be a Bitcoin 2.0. Bitcoin will go to 100k+ per coin in the next 5 to 10 years, it will absorb all the value researched in the field if not directly through protocol improvements then through sidechains.

Bitcoin will remain the only solid coin. The only coin that survived for the longest time (other coins can't claim this unless they invent a time machine).
There will be alts that pump really hard and make people millionaires, but no alt is going to surpass Bitcoin's strength and solidity. No coin will get a bigger marketcap. In the long term people holding 21+ BTC will be rewarded by history with rich-tier status for seeing the value in it before most people did. Do not let the FUDsters trick your mind or the trolls try to derrail the excellent job being done by Core devs.

Let's continue then our path towards inevitable triumph.

There might be a new coin that can compete with bitcoin, it's called Grancoin

Yes true but maybe other alt coin do much better publicity than Bitcoin and that coin replace the Bitcoin that time if it is only the matter of advertisement or publicity.

It's not just Ether that is being dumped like other well-known alts, but even some currently appreciated projects like Monero and some other ICO coins, which were thought to give bitcoins some competition, were just being used to "trade" alone for the purpose of profits and nothing else.
