Even if I firewall-out everything and use gorilla node (which is at block 41743) as exclusive I still can't sync beyond block 41380.

I think network can't sync with gorilla since gorilla added 'bad' (whatever it was) transaction in block 41381.
And I think (could be wrong) that network can't go gorilla way because it requires software patch (or any other non trivial actions) to accept this transaction.
