looking for opinions. selling off my 750 ti's.  still want to be able to mine just in case something becomes profitable, also want to be able to rock all the new games    should i get a 970 or a 980. and what is the preferred brand.

If your primary activity will be gaming, and mining is secondary, then get the 980 (will outperform a 780Ti in gaming, but is also still very energy-efficient when you want to mine with it).  Also, my personal brand recommendation would be MSI.  I got an MSI card about five years ago randomly, and was so impressed by them, that I've only bought MSI cards ever since.

- heavy/mjollnir on linux are broken

I will maybe do (or maybe in 1.4.8 )
- i will try to detect the gpu model to set optimal default intensity per card
- average hashrate based on 50 last values (displayed on Total lines only)

1.4.7 is a bit faster @ i 20 (for gtx 970) than sp_'s release6, but a bit slower @ i 19 (or when not specified).

Well, the 780 Ti was released about 5 months after the 780 so it might take a while for the 980 Ti to be released.


On a sidenote, the 1000 series cards (2016) will have some interesting features:

3D Memory: Stacks DRAM chips into dense modules with wide interfaces, and brings them inside the same package as the GPU. This lets GPUs get data from memory more quickly – boosting throughput and efficiency – allowing Nvidia to build more compact GPUs that put more power into smaller devices. Unified Memory: This will make building applications that take advantage of what both GPUs and CPUs can do quicker and easier by allowing the CPU to access the GPU’s memory, and the GPU to access the CPU’s memory, so developers don’t have to allocate resources between the two.

NVLink: Today’s computers are constrained by the speed at which data can move between the CPU and GPU. NVLink puts a fatter pipe between the CPU and GPU, allowing data to flow at more than 80GB per second, compared to the 16GB per second available now.

Pascal Module: NVIDIA has designed a module to house Pascal GPUs with NVLink. They are one-third the size of the standard boards used today.

regarding unified memory, it is already implemented on the 980 (I think...), but there isn't any practical use to it (beside breaking backward compatibility... with compute 35 and 50  ) in crypto... (what matter actually is to avoid accessing global mem from the gpu... and obviously the cpu) may be to transmit faster a good nonce to the server ? but beside that it isn't really usefull.

Well, the 780 Ti was released about 5 months after the 780 so it might take a while for the 980 Ti to be released.

5 months isn't that far away, if this is the case too, mining is not profitable anyway so better to wait, unless you need it to play far cry 4  , but even then a 970 can run any title at full hd, 980 would be mandatory for those who bought a 4k monitor, i can agree on this
