Some of the PoS coins will survive like LEOcoin.
Ethereum will probably also survive even I highly doubt their entire platform and smart contracts.
PoW coins like Bitcoins will die because of the environment footprint.
(Bitcoins is controlled entirely by Chinese miners. We just saw how they manipulated the price to above $1100. Some went in and bought way too late and have lost a big on that. Stay away from speculating in Bitcoin. It's too late.)

You have some that are below top ten that are good for investment still this can be good starting point in any way to see how it will progress in following months also we can see how much they have and average price this is also good indicator for choosing right one.

Quantum Computing will kill every current project. They will all need to hard fork a new Algo to survive.

I suggest Dash, ZEC, ETH. I think those altcoins have strong community and they are taking part in many platform projects. I still wait for new altcoin which it has full of bitcoin and altcoins power but I do not know when it happens.

they'll all survive. question is in what form? they'll continue to pump and dump happily on exchanges. i don't expect any of them to go any further than that. the real alts will come from places not linked to this cesspit.

LTC used to offer ASIC resistance, now it offers nothing. And DOGE is a crapcoin that used a dead 2003 meme to gain some hype & traction which quickly died in a few months. I don't understand why people would even consider it will survive in the future, it's already dead. SUrvival doesn't just mean "the network is still up". It means that the coin is being traded and developed actively. In order to survive in the future a coin needs advantages and prospects to become something great.
My vote goes to XMR.

in my opinion i will choose ethereum, zcash, and litecoin
zcash is already half dead and ethereum is a zombie being pumped. the only remaining option is litecoin and not because it is a good coin but only because it belongs to Chinese and they love it. and you are forgetting about coins with something to offer like monero and iconomi comparing zcash with monero, i still prefer monero for cryptonote

Based on what it has been seen among the wide array of altcoins such as development, innovation, and security issues, what altcoins might survive in the future? In my opinion, I think that the only ones prone to survive would be good old altcoins such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, but I may be wrong. Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion about this as well as any altcoin that might be worth holding onto for the long term. I think the altcoins that might survive in the future are ethereum, litecoin, ripple, monero, ethereum classic, dashcoin, augur and maidsafecoin. And i choose all of them because i use marketcap as base for ref and we can check at here https://coinmarketcap.com and the developers of altcoins always make updating the coins.

No. You can replace dogecoin with Monero in your comment. Interest in the darknet is a big boost for them because it will start a real economy behind the coin. That only bad thing I see about this is it will start eating away on bitcoin's value by competing with it in bitcoin's niche markets.

Litecoin will survive.
Get some LTC and send it somewhere and see how soon it arrives at destination address compared to other cryptos (especially BTC). That is LTC's USP when compared to lesser currencies.
I think BTC will be used for store of wealth and LTC used for shopping (though I'm not an expert on LTC tps). It's just a matter of time before people see the glaring truth about how much more usable LTC is than BTC.
Once BTC price gets too high people will run to LTC simply because it has higher levels of mainstream media visibility than other cryptos. I don't personally believe the general public will go hunting for the best, most anonymous tech out there. I just don't think they care about that stuff. There are 3 main cryptocurrencies recognised outside of this industry. BTC, LTC and DOGE (sorry DOGE haters - It's a well known crypto whether you like it or not). ETH is seen as a blockchain platform, not a currency.
I just have to say (off point here) that the ETH wallets are the worst thing to hit crypto in a long time. It's disgraceful. Imagine trying to demonstrate an ETH wallet to a lay person (and I thought NXT was bad enough).

This is well said but you forgot some to mentioned here that i think will do the the job. Monero and Dash are still good ones in the market. Monero experienced rapid growth in market capitalization and transaction volume during the last year, partly due to adoption by major darknet market AlphaBay. And Dash also experience grow in capitalization in last year to. So in this list I would add these two coin also.

I guess you are right, mate. Monero has gained a lot of traction lately, and with popular darknet markets accepting it, its future would be very bright. Maybe it could keep rising in price until it becomes second in marketcap, leaving it next to BTC and surpassing ETH. That is why, I think that XMR may be worth holding for the long term as it will aim to survive as long as it remains usable in the darknet markets, and provide true anonymity between transactions. Now for Litecoin, even though there is no innovation for it, it may really gain traction if SegWit becomes active on it. Just sharing my thoughts.
