Only quantum-secure coins will survive once quantum computers are a reality.

Look into IOTA, as far as I know, it's the only quantum secure coin out there.

IOTA seems to be Exchange & Marketcap resistant also.

Provide some links if I am mistaken.   Wink

Based on what it has been seen among the wide array of altcoins such as development, innovation, and security issues, what altcoins might survive in the future?

In my opinion, I think that the only ones prone to survive would be good old altcoins such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, but I may be wrong.

Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion about this as well as any altcoin that might be worth holding onto for the long term.  Grin
Monero since it does specific thing it does and I does very well, the level of anonymity is increased for those that want to have better privacy when performing transactions, other coins may survive and thrive but I will put my money in monero.

I dont know which coins would able to survive for long in the future since most of them usually go down after they launched but i strongly believe about LTC since its still there standing and almost the same age of bitcoin but still no one would really know if they could able to survive for more years and for sure there are new coins to be launched and would join the competition.

I agree that many coins have faced same situation, even though they have strong back ground but why they are not surviving in this present industry. Coins like LTC, DOGE are still alive because even the price of them are still stagnate. At least some more coin should them and give good competition for bitcoin.

This formula I've been experimenting with could be helpful in addressing this topic.

A = Coin age in weeks
N = Node count
M = Marketcap in millions

Why coin's age? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindy_effect
Why node count? adoption indicator
Why marketcap? market sentiment indicator

(A x N x M) = Score

This is a coin that inspire confidence in me. nxt-ardr and ethereum. I do not know how much they will live but they have a very large community of developers and good. There are many contenders for survival but talking about them will be commonplace, they are still very young but promising.
The main problem is that most of the coins is not aimed at a long life, and just to get as much money from unsuspecting users as possible.

Oh, please. Dogecoin started as a joke and it's not even developed anymore. Litecoin's advantage is it was one of the first altcoins but there isn't enough demand for it right now.
I think Monero is the first choice when I think about today's altcoins. Ethereum and Zcash also have big userbase but I'm skeptical about them in the long term.

How far into the future are we talking about here?

In crypto time "far" into the future can be 6 months (or weeks lol).

I agree but there are a lot of good coins coming up with good features and large community, one of this is Burstcoin ,the coin that can get a lot of volume and supports from investors and miners are the one who's going to stay here ,we;ll know this 2017 if those coins that launches last year are building up.

Yeah. Burstcoin is good altcoin providing unique features like decentralized crowdfunding and the ability to mine coins with free space from your hard drive. Although it is pretty cool, and has a good community and development team, it is somewhat unprofitable to mine coins with your HDD at current rates and difficulty. Still, it is a great way to introduce newbies into mining, since it is much easier to setup an HDD than an ASIC or GPU for mining cryptocurrencies.

One thing that I have been wondering is that if Burst is reaching its total supply, its price hasn't increased that much, as the coin is getting scarcer than ever. But still, I have hopes for Burstcoin to survive in the future, as I'm a long term holder and investor of the cryptocurrency.  Roll Eyes

Litecoin and Dogecoin are the pioneering altcoins although there one of the altcoins that can survive, aside from them there is ethereum, Dao, Xmr, Wbb, etc that are probably will continously stand.

Maybe so. If ETH could recover and become stronger than ever after the DAO hack, and its flaws, then it could maintain its place as the second cryptocurrency in marketcap besides Bitcoin, and survive for the long term.

In the case of Monero, it can manage to survive in the future if it remains usable on the deep web markets, and provides promising innovation with its unique anonymity technique.

Other altcoins that might survive in the future would be: Dash, Lisk, Waves, ETC, and Ripple. Just my opinion.  Smiley

There is no reason other coins could not update their code to become resistant to quantum computers since it is not like they are going to appear out of nowhere the devs will have time to adapt and update the code of their coins.

XMR will probably continue be used for quite some time on the darknet.

The only other coin I'm bullish on when it comes to longevity in the magnitude of years is GAME. It's still a relatively small and new coin, but it has all the variables needed to potentially garner sustained useage in the long run. It has a clear, concrete, and obtainable goal, an invested community, and interested 3rd parties that are looking to incorporate GameCredits into their non-crypto affairs.

Eth has a lot of projects and Dapps being developed. The talk may be quiet for now but don't take your eye off of it yet. A big price pump will come around.

Besides that. LTC may last if SegWit passes and BTC were to fail to pass it, it would seat BTC as nothing more than a store of value as the transaction times will bog it down for real world purpose. DASH is growing, Monero as said has its specific purpose. ZEC may or may not survive. I need to learn more about Decred

If you want to know which coins survive in the future what you basically have to do is to observe their development and management teams 1. thoroughly at first glance and 2. over the course of time.

If you see results and a good implementation of what has been and is being preached, then you have found a project that has great chances of being around in -- and taking part in shaping -- the future.

Agree. If the development team of a specific cryptocurrency, is a very active one, then it shouldn't be a matter of time before it gets upgraded to improve their security against quantum computers. The ones that might not upgrade though, would be those altcoins which are pump and dump, as well as have an inactive development team and community.

In my own opinion, I think that the first coin in doing the improvement would be Bitcoin itself and then the vast majority of altcoins will follow. It would be quite interesting to see what effect quantum computing would have on the security and stability of those coins which have not made the switch yet.

Nevertheless, the altcoins that are prone to survive are those who can maintain active development and a solid community over the years. Just my thoughts.  Grin

Yes, my vote goes to Cloak also!
Sometimes your formula cannot be applied, in regarding of new technologies such as Bitcoin it is very hard to predict when will some project find its way to mainstream or at least darknet in case of CLOAK coin. Sometimes best opportunities are those in early beginnings, and with small investments you can gain much more..

I agree with you except for some little modifications there. dogecoin is out of the line. At the moment, Dogecoin has lost it Purpose and It's now being used mostly as a Coin specially made for gamblers. Alot of people still think Dogecoin will start make a comeback but I'm not sure that will happen anytime soon instead in Dogecoin's place, I'd put CloakCoin

It is pretty much a given that monero is going to be one of the coins to survive in the future since it has real world usage, LTC is also one of the ones is going to keep existing I have always thought of LTC as the little brother of bitcoin.

Thanks for sharing the video. I was told about CLOAK before, but I've never decided to invest into it. Time has passed since I've first looked into CLOAK, and now it has grown in development, and community interest. Since it is an anonymous cryptocurrency, it can be very useful to transact with merchants with its unique ENIGMA mixing system. Hopefully, I would've made a smart choice by investing into it, and holding onto the coins for the long term.

You can feel free to send me more details and tips about CLOAK at any time via PM.  Wink

Nevertheless, I hope that it could survive in the future, as long as it manages to provide constant development and innovation.  Smiley
