It wouldnt overcome but it will hild a strong preferences in currency spending. People usually pay for btc with paypal at preev rate of 5-15% due to chargeback. Paypal is just having a really huge issue for the chargeback. Even the hard fork issue may came soon, yet i guess btc is still more realible to sent and receive as a payment
Hardfork is not an issue to be compared to the paypal process Tongue it is an update to the block size and if it is done carefully then there is no issue and there wont be a split in the block chain and everything will be smooth, paypal always had the charge back issue and paypal is not a currency but bitcoin is.
Yes,bitcoin is a currency while paypal is a means of making payment for goods and services online or transfering funds online. If check what the OP said he/she was talking about the total population of people which will use either paypal or bitcoin as terms of payment in the future.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

:)There's one problem with bitcoin. sometimes absolute freedom is too much freedom. People need to feel "safe" about their money, even if it is just an illusion. Banks, Paypal, etc give people that safety. Bitcoin on the other hand, where every single transaction is final and there's no central authority, makes most people a little uncomfortable.

The mass adoption of Bitcoin depends to a large extent on the payment and service infrastructure that underlies each transaction.
Integrating a leading service such as PayPal is an important step in making Bitcoin transactions increasingly accessible, either through online payments or with any debit or credit card, and this is a possible service that PayPal You may provide to Coinbase.

Bitcoin can't be responsible for the mistake users do. Sending to the wrong adress, dealing with scammers ect. You can even say the same with Paypal in some way... And for record Payal doens't cover all type of transactions for buyers. For exemple virtual items.... And take a look at the sellers point of view: how then can be safe using paypal ? Nothing, to summarize

It seems to me that both these systems have their advantages and disadvantages. And each determines what it is more convenient for him to use. I use these services equally often

Bitcoin and PayPal are two completely different things. Apples and oranges.

Bitcoin = protects the seller and allows fraudulent sellers to screw customers like Butterfly Labs did.

PayPal = protects the buyer from fraudulent sellers and returns money to the buyer in case of fraud. The only buyers that got their money back from Butterfly Labs used PayPal for the purchase. How's that for a kick in the ass. PayPal actually protected a shitload of bitcoiners.

I think bitcoin already overcome Paypal, if you are going to check the features of bitcoin such as: Sending Money, Billings, Shopping Online, volatility, anonymous, and Decentralization on this things Paypal was being left in terms of usages, also bitcoin can be use in trading meaning it has value fluctuation rather than Paypal don't have that.

True. There are many things that you can do with Bitcoin than PayPal, which is just a payment processor that manages your fiat balance from your card or bank account. With Bitcoin, you get to do much more than a traditional payment processor, as it gives you the power to become a shareholder of this Distributed Autonomous Corporation.

Your Bitcoin holdings are like shares of a company, where you can buy or sell, as well as receive dividends from it by mining Bitcoin. It also enables you to transact with other people without the need of identity verification.

In short, Bitcoin has many advantages over PayPal, and while it has been facing with scalability issues lately, it will aim to improve over time, making it a robust payments ecosystem for anyone to transact without any middlemen involved.

Maybe someday, if Bitcoin becomes successful enough, PayPal would adopt the digital currency, as a means of payment for other merchants that accept PayPal like eBay. Just sharing my thoughts.  Grin

these are 2 diffrent platforms i dont believe they are much of competators, paypal is a secured way to pay regularly, to link your bank and credit card and to offer services, bitcoin is more for the anonymusity side of things
both have different advantages and I think there will be much difference pendapata. PayPal may be better or worse but I think both can be used for pious help
While there are differences at the same time bitcoin and paypal strive to provide a service that is similar, the ability to transfer your funds from one side of the world to the other as effectively as possible.

True. Both provide the ability to transfer your funds at any point in the world. While I think Bitcoin and PayPal will co-exist, Bitcoin could become more accessible for the unbanked, as it requires no identity verification or credit card access. Being a decentralized cryptocurrency it has no single point of failure, while PayPal can shutdown at any point in time.

Still, PayPal has a few advantages over it, as well as a great acceptance from known merchants and businesses. You can also, request your money back, unlike Bitcoin which its transactions are irreversible.

In the end, I think that PayPal might adopt Bitcoin and create a bridge between it so users can quickly exchange fiat to BTC or vice versa. It would become handy for merchants who only accept PayPal, to give the convenience of using Bitcoin. Just sharing my thoughts.  Smiley

Right now both are rendering service standing on different platforms. Now bitcoin has been gaining strength with its currency form, where PayPal serves only as an payment gateway. Only time decides based on the interest of people towards development.

Since crypto currency is competing foreign currency, expect that bitcoin could beat paypal. Ad bitcoin be supported by government, its market would spread rapidly making it be legalized and formally introduced to the market where in it can beat paypal in this case.

I would like that too, but paypal seems adamant in their reluctance to accept bitcoin maybe they know deep down that if they accept bitcoin then bitcoin could end up growing a lot and stealing a part of their business.

Oh, PayPal is definitely a currency at this point. And pretty well accepted too. I've seen PayPal integration on every shopping cart I use online, at select fast food restaurants, some gas pumps. It's even an option at CoinStar.

And they are a bank as well. At least, they act like a bank, holding funds from consumers for non AML/KYC reasons.

There's a chance that bitcoin can overcome PayPal but we are still far from it. But right now it's not going to happen as PayPal is being trusted by it's customers throughout the globe. And in bitcoin we are still few in this crypto transacting though there are a lot of transactions happening daily. People will still stick to PayPal.

Just one big mistake of Paypal could make them lose all their customer.
That will be the chance of bitcoin to takeover. Once the news spread that bitcoin can do the same thing as Paypal or even better it will be changed. At first I thought they are good services also, but as time goes by I got so regretful specially with the high fees that I paid which could be added now to my investment here in bitcoin. It is just too expensive for every transaction you made from them specially the cashing out to a bank.

That can happen but that's a "only if" PayPal will do a big mistake. But they are already in the industry for a lot of years and they've got millions of customers throughout the world. Also they can try to adopt bitcoin is they want but I don't think this is possible to happen but if it will, they can attract a lot of customers from bitcoin.

I am sure it's already working in the right direction, the baby steps have been taken, and it's evident by the rise of no of people coming to Bitcoin. There's a school that accepts Bitcoin as payment, swizz has opened its doors for Bitcoins. Dubai use it to. I am sure somewhere the big brass of paypal are looking at btc and wondering how to work it out in the near future. Let's hope for the best.

While there are differences at the same time bitcoin and paypal strive to provide a service that is similar, the ability to transfer your funds form one side of the world to the other as effectively as possible.

Smiley
I would like that too, but paypal seems adamant in their reluctance to accept bitcoin maybe they know deep down that if they accept bitcoin then bitcoin could end up growing a lot and stealing a part of their business.

Or maybe they can never take bitcoin because it exists to protect the seller and PayPal exists to protect the buyer. If PayPal used bitcoin how could they protect the buyer and reverse transactions? Bitcoin can't be reversed.
