Claiming that investing is sort of passive income seems to be an obvious overstretch here (unless you "invest" in your deposit account in a bank, of course). Is Warren Buffett a "passive" investor? But that's not my point. More specifically, the things you enumerated (namely, special skills, obtaining more knowledge, improving techniques) are equally applicable to investing as well in absolutely the same degree. For example, by improving and expanding your knowledge you will be able to make more profitable investments just like that will help you with trading

Lets take Disney as an example. An investor will think, this company has been around for generations and kids are always going to watch cartoons. So this company isn't going anywhere. If I buy the stock now, I will reap benefits of all the Marvel and Star Wars movies to come. (Note: Assessing fundamentals, and thorough analysis is required here)

A trader will think, the new Avenger movie is coming up, its best I buy the stock now and sell it after the first 10 days of the movie. Since at that point the movie will be buzzing towards the next highest grosser. So I would have made a good profit by then, and I don't really need to care/think about what happens to Disney after.

to me i also think that both are the same think and there is no such a big difference between the two. i think the money we invest in a specific item is called trading and that is the simple definition of trading and investment.

For me trading is better as I cannot be always be dependent on others to make profits and if it fails then I will regretting on my decision so it would be good to have control of funds in our own hands and try to take decision according to the situation around.

But it more on the analyzation method, Both things end up with the ROI to be the main goal.

The trading needs a lot of the analyzation to get the right answer and high accuracy when will the market goes.

To get best analyzation and it needs good skill by the analyser itself.
