It may soon get out of control if those long bfx margin calls start triggering.

Regarding, Jorge, the level of paranoia in here is getting a little scary (and I talk as someone who tries to maintain a high level of paranoia). Jorge is wrong (IMO) but sincere. No one is seriously going to be trying to control the market through this forum (unless it is the market for pictures of rockets and trains).

+1

(sorry, am a few pages late.)

I'm not overly impressed by Jorge's critical abilities re: Bitcoin, considering he's an established CS professor and presumably not completely unintelligent, but it's certainly pathetic to throw around baseless accusations of him being a shill just because you don't like someone's opinions.

Jorge's no shill, imho his posts have been fair, intelligent and unbiased with fairly typical blind spots for an older white male* and I'm glad he's taking part in discussions as many in this thread (including myself) tend to go off on a tangent to reality and many of his posts give a neutral to swing back to. I'm a bit mystified why he's devoting a not inconsiderable amount of time to this thread though. Sure, its a good place for banter but there's a lot of crap to wade through to find anything suitable for an academic interest in bitcoin speculation. Maybe he's getting hooked, just one little wafer thin bitcoin sir? Wink

It's not big difference on litecoin than it was 3 days ago, 30-40 cents.

my position is older than that. also, profits are proportional to percentage change. litecoin volatility has consistently been larger with respect to the base price on most days. i think it might still follow when huobi decides to...

in other news, the bidwall at stamp is trying to look super menacing, but until the buying pressure seriously picks up this slow grind is bound to continue.

bfx shorts are going to cover/take profits too. I'm counting on them to save me. Fool's hope, maybe. We'll see.

anyone who went long after the $530 breach is paying too much attention to "fundamentals" and not enough attention to technicals, imho

edit: @billyjoeallen, stats say many more longs than shorts

I have tried posting on other threads, but traffic there is measured in posts per week...

I was not exaggerating when I said that I learned A LOT reading this thread.  All sorts of information gets posted here, which I would not even dream of looking for otherwise.  Three months ago I did not know what an order book was, and arbitrage for me was something that happens at soccer matches. Here I have learned about the geometric brownian model, technical analysis and its controversy, and much more... THANK YOU ALL, really.

We are in for a long slow slide and until some of the major things in the works take effect we will not see any new interest. The medias love affair is over. Now it is up to us the true bitcoin community to do good work and continue building, educating, and investing. That is where we will see long consistent growth instead of hyped volume and price.

if we break under that support, then yes, that would be a mid-term bearish signal.

Yep. The hype year was 2013. Now it's time to find out the sum of what's left: unshakeable long-term investors + new adoption = real price

Sorry, i wish cryptocoins succeed in some way, but am still skeptical...

Care to summarise? I remember seeing points but its easy to forget who said what in this thread and its a lot of posts to wade through. Bitcoin and crypto's are still very much in their infancy and I'm not up to date on current development but there are a lot of obvious weaknesses being addressed, multisig and requests/invoices/receipts would be a couple of examples. I'd guess a list could attract a bit too much of the wrong kind of attention in this thread though Smiley

Definitely interested in Dr. Stolfi's thoughts on this but you are right, he will be slammed in this thread or any other for that matter. Perhaps he can publish it on a blog?
