The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

The largest theft in history, to my knowledge, is the embezzlement of 4.3 trillion USD in the U.S. dept. of defense reported to congress by sec.y Rumsfeld on 10 Sep 2001.  Clearly it was digital, as otherwise the task of transporting the benjamins would have required 2200 standard 50ft boxcars, I.e. a train of boxcars 22 miles long, which would have drawn attention.

+1

But I'm quite sure Jorge will find a way of blaming Bitcoin for that too.  Then he'll diligently ignore the rebuttals, wait a month or so and bring it up again. Wink

The reason Bitcoin will rise has little to do with modern countries with regulated banking sectors that are mostly working properly.  The reason someone in a third world country would invest in Bitcoin is because it's going to be safer than the bank that is controlled by a shaky Government.  If your money was in Ukraine's currency, would you feel safe that it would be there in the morning?  Unlikely.  And it is not easy for these people to go and purchase another currency and then keep it somewhere safe.  Bitcoin provides safety.  It's just not that easy to move money in and out of Bitcoin for the non-text savy.  More Bitcoin ATM's, more adoption at stores, more wallets and education.  Its value will grow and grow.

Bitcoin needs a lot more education in the third world and access has to be made available.  The longer Bitcoin survives the more people will realize it's not a fly-by-night investment scam, and an actual good place to store your money safely.  Safer than corrupt banks and hanging onto cash in the home.

Chinese Slumber Method prediction for Monday April 21

Prediction valid for: Monday 2014-04-20, 19:00--19:59 UTC (not before, not after)
Huobi's predicted price: 3097 CNY
Bitstamp's predicted price: 496 USD

Plot legend

Today's data point was fair, (S = 0.0 035 W = 0.782) and, like the previous one, totally off the trend of Apr/16--18.  Whatever external causes sustained that trend must have ceased, so it is appropriate to start a new trend, the straight line defined by the last two points.  Namely, A + B*(d-d0), where d-d0 is the number of days since Apr/19, A = 3153 and B = -28.

The Bitstamp prediction, as usual, is the Huobi prediction divided by the currency conversion factor R, which was assumed to be 6.24 CNY/USD. It was 6.25, 6.26, 6.18, 6.21, 6.23 at the last five Slumber Times.

Checking the previous prediction

Prediction was posted on: Saturday 2014-04-19, 23:37 UTC
Prediction was valid for: Sunday 2014-04-20, 19:00--19:59 UTC (~19 hours later)

Punished for my stubborness:

Huobi's predicted price: 2788 CNY
Huobi's actual price (L+H)/2: 3125 CNY
Error: 337 CNY (~54 USD)

Bitstamp's predicted price: 450 USD
Bitstamp's actual price (L+H)/2: 500 USD
Error: 50 USD

yeah, talking about marketcap with crypto is quiet meaningless to me. Real question about Ripple don't you think you may be wrong about it ? I mean well known economist are part of the team now https://ripple.com/blog/welcome-susan-athey-to-ripple-labs/
and they are still hiring and working hard on the protocol.

Bad trolling appart , what do you think ?

Yes. Saw that item about Athey, and agree that the value of XRP is not massively important. I remain unconvinced about the trust model, and the utility of its gateways. It works, but does it have the potential of even NXT or Etherium, let alone Bitcoin?  I will watch longer before investing in XRP.
