And while the tumbleweed was rolling past, we so very nearly saw the $10,000 bitcoin, albeit only in one wee corner of the internet and presumably because someone was drunk, misinformed or pushed the wrong button.

It wasn't such a long wait after all.
I wonder if the Chinese can use this as an excuse to dump?

So.... what's the next bad news going to be about?

Some exchange being hacked/closed? China ban part VIII? FBI dumping 100k coins? Gox finally launching midas?

If I were the CEO of a Chinese exchange and the PBoC would shut my business down for good, I'd be very tempted
to take a flight to South America, and have some nice paper wallets in my hand luggage.

Was that action on CampBX an API glitch? Or did somebody exploit the trade engine in some way? Pretty sure no one bought it up to $10k. But maybe they wanted to paint the chart that way. Tongue

Who would buy 100 coins for 10k each anyway?

It was ~ 132 from looking at Wisdom. That's likely well over a million bucks on a 132 coins. And CampBX is now offline. Roll Eyes My guess -- someone found an exploit, bought all the coins on the book with fake USD, then made off with as much as they could from the hot wallet.

That would make sense, if the hackers managed to give themselves plenty of fiat IOUs and there was no one to supervise the withdrawal from the hot wallet (it's Sunday).

Well, 100 coins won't hurt the market i hope but it could really hurt the exchange as they had really low volumes. I hope it was just a error in IPO or something.

I'm sure there is a trading clause in their contract that voids sales due to software problems.  In that case they buy back 132 coins at market to give back to sellers. So only 60g.  The value of the coins the hackers took

I'm still wondering how on earth Chinese exchanges get their yuans now.
Supposedly all routes are closed, so either that isn't the case or they are playing a shell game ala willy bot.... which would be awesome just think of the panic that would cause once they blow up. And the best part is: Free pumping until that happens.

Are they still open to CNH? If so, that would be my guess - traders with CNH in Hong Kong or London.

So do we just need more "drunk, misinformed" people who accidentally push the wrong button to get to $10,000?  That should be easy enough.

Buy!!!  Grin

This marks a new precedent, a place to go. And although it may seem silly, but it's a signal for some people.
