Is this true ?

"ITSTAMP SERVICE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED We have reason to believe that one of Bitstamp’s operational wallets was compromised on January 4th, 2015. As a security precaution against compromises Bitstamp only maintains a small fraction of customer bitcoins in online systems. Bitstamp maintains more than....."

I saw it on their webpage so if it's not true then they are REALLY in a heap of shit.

If this is a hack of 18k BTC, bitstamp is in a huge trouble....
I suggest those in bitstamp to spend their BTC and get out of there ASAP.

Also, this can be an insider hack, like sending those customer's coins to an address and announce it as hacked and say sorry!!!
In today's world, this is very possible....

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Gox smelled fishy for almost a year before they burst. It would take people months to get fiat out of the exchange and they kept blaming regulatory obstacles that none of the other exchanges had heard of. This with Bitstamp looks like a precautionary measure to ensure that there will be no more Goxing.

Need to say... I'm impresed there was no panic on other exchanges (yet)  Smiley

If this means Bitstamp customers can't dump their coins then the market can get some time to stabilize before stamp is back. It might even rise. Unless the FUDsters get ahead with their message of course.

Yes I agree. I am also pleased about the way Stamp is handling the situation.

I'm also pleased how they are "handling" the "situation" but probably for not the same reason you are.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

The manipulators who dumped us down to new lows have already fired their ammo.

Even with finex and the Chinese fake exchanges you need coins to sell to move the price. Anyone selling will have done so a long time ago IMO. Grizzly believers left now Smiley

Edit: btc shorts at near all time highs on finex. Over 20,000 now.

Maybe you will but I know my paper wallet coins are safe.

I lost about 50 coins at Gox when it went down 5 months after I first tried to move them to paper. Once bitten twice shy.

Now I mine directly to paper and mostly buy off-exchange directly to paper.

I keep some coins on Stamp for trading purposes and I'm not worried. I'll be worried if they start halting fiat withdrawals and start acting all weird like MtGox did.

You don't really 'need' a paper wallet, just a reqular QT client will do the job unless your computer is riddled with malware.

I've never lost a coin from a proper wallet but I do keep them on a separate computer which isn't used for day to day stuff.

I hate to jump to conclusions but...

Mt.Gox > MintGox (former Mintpal) > StampGox > ...

Mark Karpeles is chillin' in Curitiba, not giving a single fuck.
Alex Green (Mintpal), aka Ryan Kennedy, aka Ryan Gentle is nowhere to be found. It's not like anyone's trying hard though.

You see, that pig Karpeles set a precedent. Run with the bank and blame it on the hackers. Works pretty good from what i see.
