So is there a rational explanation for what's happened here?

1. 19k coins have been stolen from stamp (how?) and were sold forcing the market to unprecedented lows.
2. Stamp has to buy these coins back.
3. Stamp is pulling a potential gox and is insolvent?

What's going on?

what is this bullshit?

nothing is going on. you bulltards had an opportunity to consolidate your lines, transfer cash to buy super cheap coins while stamp is down and all I am seeing are some 4 k coins to 250 $ on bitfinex and a bot that is dumping in 0.8 chunks.

if bitstamp has to buy 18k coins to cover the hack, that would be quite bullish Smiley

they have like 200 k coins in cold wallet, but I am guessing that bulls are gonna go and try a btc run once bitstamp opens its doors.

I hope that is their plan, cause we all love to short those pumps.

Well with shorts at ATH on finex we could bounce up a fair distance, no?

I fear that the only thing they worry about is that they can only drag this mofo $276 more down. They will never have another 2014.

Looks like a coin toss to me ... $20m longs, $5m shorts and a very thin order book on both sides at BFX
Add in an ascending triangle from the low that is rapidly running out of space and we are heading for a breakout very soon IMO
If you like your risk in extreme doses, now's the time to place a bet  Wink

Oh yes, lets add in another variable for fun - Stamp could reopen or make an unexpected announcement at any time lol

(...)
all your short profits locked up in fake fiat in an insolvent fake exchange? boo-hoo ... naked shorted and crashed the asset underwriting the exchange holding your fake profits ... what idiots, you are better off at vegas.
(...)

This is rich. A bitcoin bulltard saying that shorting profits are "fake", and that shorters are gambling, but bulltards are not.

If anything, bulls are the ones gambling, even more than the shorters if that's possible. From a value-oriented investing perspective (best represented by Warren Buffett), the value of one bitcoin is zero. Who is being more rational here, the bull or the bear?

There could be little run out from stamp when they come back online... fastes way is btc or ripple (not sure how many are using ripple)  Wink

They could reopen with certain short term limitations, which could be interpreted positively or negatively by the market - who knows? Very tough position they've got themselves into. TBH I have my doubts that we will see them online today, but as I am no expert I have no idea how long all the checks and changes would take, so take that as pure speculation, not an attempt at FUD.

But I sense fireworks are on their way. Best plan might be to sit back and watch the show  Cheesy

Popcorn time coming !!

Til then ...

There are 5 million of Bitcoin in some unknown place that can be dumped at any moment.

I think it will worry the shorters for some time and stop the price from growing for some time

How exactly are they going to dump them? The address is marked as hacked Bitstamp coins. The second someone tries to move them into fiat they are going to get nailed.
