I love how the kid doing PR for Bitfinex is now saying the hack will only impact BTC balances, and those with USD used in a BTC margin position.

"A coin that shall not be named!!!", "A coin that shall not be named!!!", "A coin that shall not be named!!!", and pure USD clients get away without a scratch! lol.  

That could be true... especially if they don't assume responsibility for the theft and throw all the BTC thieved users under the buss. With the promise that they will track and sanction any transaction with provenience from the theft or descendant from the theft.

*Edit: This could basically set a precedent for all the black listed transaction to be put under scrutiny and surveillance. Hence the coins to be worthless and 100% probably confiscated in some unknown future transaction.

IMO a fully successful bitcoin fork that brings about change and progress, and displaces cores monopoly, would be ultra bullish.
the chances of this thing succeeding are very slim
but why not take a min to answer some polls

I was thinking... perhaps... this is actually good for Bitcoin!

1) The fallout from a bankrupt Bitfinex will probably do less damage than if those $40 million of leveraged longs were caught up in a cascading margin call.

2) 120k BTC off the market, very dangerous to deposit it into a fiat interfacing exchange, at least any time soon and in any significant quantity.

3) The main option to short BTC for westerners is now gone. Back to the good 'ol days of clean buying and selling.

4) The event creates a chilling effect on sending BTC anywhere... lessening the need for any kind of maxblocksize increase! Status quo baby!

So, chin up guise!

my thoughts exactly... there was never going to be a another moon run with so many long positions in BTC, now that they are whiped its back to business as usual.

thinking long long term:

bottom line blockchain is the future
bottom line bitcoin is the first blockchain based currency
bottom line it will be much more valuable in the future, if for no other reason then its of its limited supply along with its historical property.

We like to stress this is not a message sent out by Bitfinex and we advise anyone that has received this email or any similar email to delete it immediately.

Do not open the attachments and if you have opened the attachments do a full virus scan of your computer.

In case users receive emails in relation to Bitfinex and have doubts about the validity of the message received, please always feel free to send an email to support@bitfinex.com and we will be happy to confirm if we did or did try to contact you.
