well sure, but... WHY? i mean, how the heck are they expecting to profit?

It seems Legendary accounts are worth to them to join signature campaigns, airdrops, bounties and all that shit. Not that they are gonna profit insanely though. Or none at all.

You can sell a legendary account for at least .1 BTC. If not more. According to Bitcointalk Price estimator mine's worth .18 BTC, although I think that web page overestimates what someone could really get. https://www.bctalkaccountpricer.info/?token=85k9uaoq

...well ok then.

Almost every week an account being hacked.

Back to the game, still on $4300 and no ATH.

I still can't fathom how they did it. I only signed in from one device. The password was stored in Chrome's manager and on my desktop, and that's it. I had a Chrome extension that wasn't properly vetted, but then I'd have thought they'd try and access my trade accounts, but nope, just Bitcointalk. It does makes me wonder if this site is compromised.

Anyway, back to up, up, up. Congrats to all hodlers. Cool

A rough estimate on password security from http://random-ize.com/how-long-to-hack-pass/ shows only weeks/months to crack your 9 char password. No idea what security bitcointalk uses, I assume Theymos has done it properly, but perhaps they are able to brute force multiple accounts simultaneously, and you were the unlucky one.

If you are going to use a password manager you may as well use 20char passwords, eliminating brute force as an attack vector completely.
Maybe this is  a good reason  to change all your current passwords

New all-time high incoming! 🚂

Confirmed.
Usually we were used to say that the next 24 hrs will be critical. As the 24hrs which will come next.
If you ask me we will have to wait a bit more for the new ATH.
BCH mining is profitable again and now we have less hashing power on BTC: while this stay this way no ATH my friends

I'm not sure how many airdrops are running out there, but these are confirmed running right now:

Stellar Lumens - LAST date 27th Aug
https://www.stellar.org/blog/bitcoin-claim-lumens-2/

Byteball - next round on 6th Sep
https://byteball.org/

Bitcore
https://bitcore.cc/

(And of course, the usual BitCH coins, if you've not already claimed them)

Just admit it man...you sold your account to get your fix on <insert current Silk Road name here> then came on here claiming you were "hacked".

Well played my friend.

Also DeepONION, airdrop is today but you have to add a huge signature to be able to claim the coins. But they are worth around $100-200, weekly.

I like Byteball the most.

Ok, so my account yefi got hacked 2017-08-19. I'm a little shocked at this as my p/w was a random 9 digit code with a special character. It was also unique to this site. Anyway, please ignore anything my lobotomised impostor now writes, thank you.

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg13422402;topicseen#msg13422402

The hacks can use your e-mail and reset the password or something like that.

Hopefully you are working on getting your regular account back and posting through meta...

Yup, maybe the password file was accessed somehow. A password of ONLY DIGITS (even if 9) can be quickly cracked.... or you got phished/XSS'd.

SMF, and this forum in particular, is not the summun of security anyways.

Congrats to you too! Smiley

When my account was hacked about a year ago, the hacker immediately went to attempting to make several deals.

Cyprus locked my account within about 12 hours, but the hacker had nearly finalized a few deals (through my account and through my credibility - but was not able to pull it off, because of Cyprus's quick action to lock my account due to "suspicious activities" after the hack.  I saw a few messages in my PMs.

Just as a pre-emptive defense of my account being hacked.

I do not know any royalty in Africa that need their money transferred out of the country in exchange for your bitcoins.

Another reason nobody should support cryptocurrency over silver or gold:

http://patents.google.com/patent/US20160330034A1/en?assignee=blockstream

https://falkvinge.net/2017/05/01/blockstream-patents-segwit-makes-pieces-fall-place/

These cryptocurrency corporations tried to float the idea a while back that they were all going to launch a barrage of "defensive" patents, but you're just taking their word for it and they can be used offensively at any time to gouge people with usury fees.  The entire goal of a corporation is to maximize profits in the first place, so on a long enough timeline, it's inevitable that's what they will do.  Craptocoins are now the equivalent of proprietary Microsoft office software.  You can't "patent" the existence of silver to take it over.
