The Ledger is designed in a way that, if tampered with, then it won't work and it becomes obsolete. Basically the Ledger itself is tamper-resistant, so there's no need for tamper-resistant seals on the packaging.

Couldn't someone just replace the entire guts with something that pretends to be a ledger though?  Or manufacture a copy that looks like one and swap them?
Expenses dude. That's the equivalent of the "what if im attacked by 33 ninjas with uzis" fallacy that people who are deathly afraid of physical violence get into.

And I was about to buy a fuckzillion antminers and they're only taking bcash

If that is really true then they are desperate. Jihan is on the brink of bankruptcy.

We will survive his bankruptcy. Other manufacturers will create new ASICs soon. He will realize how much money and time he spent in his personal witch-hunt too late. He could have been the most successful bitcoin millionaire on Earth but his degree in Psychology let him go the other way.
Time will speak for him. We can wait.

I'm happy with lots of "paper" wallets. That's security.

I do have a Trezor though, but I keep less than 5 coins in it. It may not be quite as absolutely secure as cold storage but it's close and it is a lot more convenient.

It's true. Read item # 4 under payments. Not just latest batch of S9, but L3 too.

Quote
4. Only BCC payment method is accepted in this batch, please use the exact amount mentioned in your order and complete the payment within one hour. After one hour, the order will expire and your payment may not be detected by the system automatically. Payment must be in BCC. We cannot accept payment in BTC. If you send BTC to the BCC wallet the coins may be lost. If the payment is submitted but the receipt is delayed, we will make your payment "Valid" manually

Currently, the BCC blocks are coming at an average of about 40 minutes. Guess if you order, you have to hope there isn't bad "luck" on the network, that would make the confirmation more than an hour...

it's quite possible we'll end up having to put up with bitcoin crash existing on the sidelines. it's a minor annoyance, like American Football.
just some crazies over there playing rugby with the wrong rules. yes it's just about viable, a sweet little economy for the colonials.
but it's always a bit annoying that we never get to find out if the yanks could actually play the game properly. and it's all very loud.
the game that everyone else in the world plays. never mind. even if they want to make up silly rules like throwing the ball forwards, we know what we're doing and carry on.

Meanwhile, I made a BTC payment today from exchange to wallet and forwarding the payment immediately from wallet to 2nd wallet.  Normal fees.

No problemo.

So what is the favoured sport of this thread? I assume by this point it's offshore power boat racing or polo.

well it's not that richly, but real tennis is rather gentlemanly and great for the older chap, as there's not so much running around

How do you guys know these trezors and ledgers aren't getting intercepted in the mail and their guts stuffed with something else?

I believe that the latest TREZOR devices are shipped empty (without f/w). You then go to SatoshiLabs's site and download it yourself. When you install it, a special "fingerprint" (a long alphanumeric string) appears on the computer's screen, which you must compare with the one that appears on TREZOR's screen. If they match, the f/w is not tampered with.

OK, I will admit that is getting pretty tricky, maybe I only need to plan for 20 ninjas

don't forget, the bottom of the big channel is $3600 still

Don't hold your breath waiting for that price...    Tongue

Oh, I'm not Jay.  The macro trend is still parabolic, even in log scale, so the real channel may well already be steeper than that.  Also, it is already quite steep and there is absolutely no guarantee that we will retest it's bottom any time soon so, of course, the longer that takes the higher it will be.

With all the forking idiocy and whatnot though, it is still a line to keep in the back of your mind.

Fair enough.  I agree that it is good not to rely too much on technical analysis, either.. but surely we have upside and downside possibilities and probabilities, and surely if price starts going down and breaking through support, then lower levels of correction become more and more possible and probable.  Currently I reset my plans a little bit to always have orders preset for a 50% correction - however, the last time when prices corrected down to $2970 (which was a 40% correction), I was scrambling a bit to figure out my orders if prices were to drop further - i had an outline of a plan to be able to buy down to $1k - but I had a bit of cashflow issues regarding how quickly we had gotten to the 40% correction level and I would have felt a bit better to have such buy order preparations down to 50% in order that I would not have had to scramble as much at that time.  so now I have fixed that issue.. even though it seems that we should be going up first before experiencing another 30% or more correction.. sure a 10% or 15% correction.. and sure, I am not going to completely rule out 40%, even now, but we gotta be prepared for up, too... maybe into the $6800 to $7800 arena...? (INCOMING!!!)...   so I agree with you that if we only think about UP, then we are likely to get fucked, too... or at least miss out on some ability to take advantage of ongoing volatility that is even of the against the trend type.
