But there is a centralization effect happening with Bitcoin in the sense that big miners are forcing their smaller competitors out of the marketplace by constantly reinvesting in better infrastructure (mining gear) - which the average Joe can't keep up with and therefore his mining power keeps decreasing. So in the end there will be a few top dogs and a few "hobby miners" I guess.
You just described why bitcoin is 100% pointless and has no value because it's not possible to create a decentralized digital currency. It's designed to centralize and if you can't legitly outgrow all your opponents by just parlaying your investment into new miners, adversarial mining is another method to destroy the competition and is basically a free win to defeat them assuming your hash power is larger than theirs. It would be like if it was legal in the metals industry for Max Keiser to run over the hill and attack Mike Maloney with a shovel while he's trying to pan the river for gold to corner the market. Or as Luke Jr has said before, for every 1 miner you buy from Bitmain, it gives Bitmain 10 free miners of their own, making it completely pointless to buy anything from them (unless you pretend bitcoin is some type of infinite pump and dump that can only pump and never dump). Or as Anonymint also paraphrased the situation, economy of scale begets more economy of scale.

If you have nothing to eat you're still forced by your own body to find something to eat. This is why people have to cooperate to find/produce their food. Every member in such a group has rights and obligations. Your right is somebody else's obligation. Every obligation you have limits your freedom! Absolute freedom means no obligations and thus no rights. It means lack of society. It means absolute solitude and loneliness. Is that what you're trying to achieve? Of course, not!
So now you're being forced by your own body? You're not obliged to anyone. Nobody is obliged to you. You can voluntarily cooperate. Most people do not like voluntary interactions. Especially if they have nothing to offer other than calling for force. I define the level of a person's freedom - obviously in person to person relationship, not magical abilities - as: "The capability in refusing to oblige on the commanding will of another actor (person) without repercussion." aka "You have no power here!" This includes voluntary interaction, and, more importantly, the inability of the other actor to enforce his will with violence. A bit idealistic definition, and i think freedom has scale, not just a 0/1 state. Even emperors get killed sometimes, despite their immense level of freedom. Here’s where libertarian communities fall down. They fail to realize that with every right comes a corresponding obligation on others. As a simple example, the right of “freedom of movement” creates an obligation on others not to interfere with those are exercising that right. Further, rights themselves conflict. “Freedom of movement” conflicts with “right to exclude others from my land”. So what happens on the Tahitian seastead when person A owns the bit where the boats dock to deliver supplies? Can person A exclude others from docking their boats because it’s their land? Or can person B exercise their freedom of movement over that land? The reality is that the exercise of rights necessarily comes with compromise. Compromise looks a lot like modern society. Libertarians are just kidding themselves if they think they can have rights without obligations - because the exercise of rights necessarily imposed obligations on others.

On a sidenote => 10k by tomorrow?
I'm jealous... You $$$ guys will reach 10k very soon, while we €€€ chaps will still be at 8.3k... But there's still hope that 10k € will be reached by the end of the year. Edit: BitcoinTalk being DDoS'd now? Or too many rocket memes being posted?

Gotta love these nice little corrections as we go. It was almost starting to look like entering bubble territory.
I don't mind catching our breath. While $10k today seems nice, I'd be happy with seeing it by month's end.
Finishing today over $9k would be just fine.

just claimed BTG
good moment to dump ?
I think Bitcoin will rampage and pull oxygen from all alts over the next couple of weeks. Personally I am not selling because I think it could play a role long term but selling now is a perfectly rational decision.

Price was $10,500 when I signed them up. Their fiat will have hit overnight and they will be waking up now. They know what they are getting themselves into. Each has sworn a solemn vow not to sell for 3 years.

I was scared to see some strange scenario like 2 weeks ago, because i saw bitcoin going down now, bitcoin cash up (it went over 1600), unconfirmed transactions raising and it looked to me like someone is attacking this website. So there was just a bit of panic on my side

I'm complaining about this exchange, not making a speculation.
Which coin is this? Bitstamp is number 10 in volume with $80 million. Einsteineum on Bittrex. I flipped this one for a 100% profit and then it kept going another 100%. It has 15K of volume. Bitstamp on the other hand has 9K of volume which pales in comparison to Bitfinex and other exchanges. Ive been trying to trade there and it's tough. Yeah, but do you know about Unobtainium yet? It's crushing Einsteineum in volume, something like ~250K of volume. On that one secret exchange you can't get to. Sorry about that, sux to be you. Later, loser! Dude we are almost 10k$ ... Lighten up torque Everything isn't a conspiracy ... Talk about lightening up. You troll idiots can't even tell when I'm making a joke. At your expense. So I'm an idiot nitwit troll now... .? For years I have shown respect for you and your cronies through all the conspiracy posts. Call me what you think It really doesn't matter torque... Your a hero in your own mind IMO and you don't know the first thing about me or my friends Cheers and all the best with your investing

The inevitability of $10k looms, and a general public scramble to create a coinbase account
My password to my account broke a month ago, I am assuming this happened to others too?? Finally was compelled to re-up and get a newbie account!
Seasteading: Interesting idea, I like boats
Seasteading with Bitcointalk: A bit too insane for me
I am not rich but I am kinda young(ish), so I got my eyes set on an affordable sailing yacht (<$37k) and will tour until I find an island I like...

It’s a tactic as old as the hills. It’s also a mark of this rampaging bull market that a 5,000 coin dump on BFX has been digested with a slight burp.

Kraken BTCJPY 1,000,000 !
See? It's all about semantics! And the power of semantics is immense! That's why we should adopt the mBTC unit. I've tried countless times to persuade people to buy BTC, only to get the same response: "BTC is far too expensive, I'll buy Doge instead." 1 mBTC = $9. Nice & cheap. Not expensive anymore! Everyone, come join in! Edit: Something's coming... And it's RED and MEAN...

I haven’t claimed my BTG yet but from what I’ve read Coinimi looks the best bet to do it safely. Input your old private keys that had bitcoin associated with them at the fork & then your Coinimi account will be credited with BTG. Personally I’d then move them to bittrex & exchange for bitcoin (exactly what I did with my BCH - but moved from Electron Cash to bittrex instead).

I had Bitcoin in my electrum wallet at the time of the fork but the passphrase wasn't compatible with Coinomi wallet so I had to sweep them. It was easy to do, Electrum shows you the private key as a QR code and you can scan it into Coinomi on your phone. Fees for the weep were negligible. While you're at it, get your Bitcore too. edit: I moved my Bitcoin out of the address before making the claims.

I've used Coinomi to claim some of my BTG and it worked flawlessly. Didn't use a seed, as I had already transferred some BTC to it before the fork, in order to ease the claim process. Important: you need to change the BTG address derivation path in order to get to your claimed coins. The normal Coinomi BTG wallet has a different path and your coins won't show straight away. Don't panic, just Google it, I think there's an official guide for this.
