Somebody is "hiding" a ~2000BTC ask at around $3300 on Gox's order book.  Not sure what they're trying to communicate since most people won't ever look up there.

Gox has limited trading functionalities so maybe it's someone who doesn't have time to check the price very often, and doesn't want to sell to low?
Though they still should have spread those 2k BTC among more orders at different prices.

I noticed this too.

Order book balancing ?

Without that 2000 BTC there would be less than 10k left for sale on MtGox at any price.

Gotta plan for spikes Smiley

The crash from the eventual high is going to be epic.

LOL, some of the people here will still be holding their BTC when they look like the guy in the bottom half of that picture.

Bitcoin : You really can take it with you when you die.
I'll sell a few close to $1000  Wink

That'd be some spike.  BTW, is BTCChina's volume really almost the same as Gox, Stamp, and BTC-E combined?!

I think the total bid depth on Gox is more surprising than the price.  Why is so much money flowing into Gox?  Not only are coin prices significantly higher on Gox, but it's practically impossible to get money back out.  I really don't get it.

People are in a panic to buy coins, and Mt Gox is easy to find.   Selling or even moving the coins is a problem for another day's panic.

An interesting thought struck me earlier - now that the majority of my personal wealth lies with bitcoin, what would be the best and most secure way of leaving them in a will?!?  If I were to get run over by a truck tomorrow, my coins would probably be lost.  None of my family or friends would have any idea what to do with paper wallets either  Shocked

I wonder how you'd do that because I was thinking this myself. You know, secure the wallet, training for family members and how the official document would look like.

You should write a treasure map with shady and mysterious instructions of how to get access to your bitcoin. That would be awesome  Cheesy

There are going to be a lot of people wondering this very soon. I had to train my wife yesterday in accessing my wallet in case something happens to me suddenly.

Cool business idea. Hide a stash of coins and have advertisers buy space along the trail to find it.
