I'm curious what if anything is going to happen once the 31st comes and nothing happens in China.
Even if nothing is going to happen, I expect some serious dumps one or more days before. People will go fiat just in case. Personally I'm going to hold + transfer some more fiat to the exchange for buying at 300 Wink

I expect a rally, China was just scaring us away from the cheap coins...

From google translate:

Shengsong Cheng : Bitcoin does not have the characteristics of the investment should pay attention to currency risk
At 13:42 on January 15, 2014 Securities Times News Network , I have something to say
Securities Times News Network (www.stcn.com) 01月15 hearing

January 15 , the State Council Information Office held a press conference , the People's Bank of China [ microblogging ] Survey Statistics Division Shengsong Cheng describes the situation in 2013 China 's financial statistics and answered reporters ' questions. Shengsong Cheng said Bitcoin itself is not denominated in the currency , nor as the pricing currency may , for Bitcoin transactions , investments, need to pay attention to risk.

Some media questions about bitcoin question as to how the Chinese central bank Bitcoin development in China perceive you think bitcoin will bring what risks the Chinese government should prohibit the use of bitcoins you

Shengsong Cheng said the question about Bitcoin , the PBOC and other five ministries jointly issued a notice , I would like to emphasize , first, we propose , is not the true meaning of bitcoin currency . Second, we prompt the Bitcoin risk and made the request . Bitcoin is a specific virtual goods . I understand what is first and foremost a medium of exchange currency is widely accepted by society as a whole medium for the exchange of commodities . Monetary developments in the history of thousands of years , once the physical currency , the final form of physical currency is gold and silver . Like Marx said gold ( 1239.20 , -5.50 , -0.44 % ) is naturally currency.

The most essential characteristic of money is a medium of exchange and measure of value . Itself to be valuable, so it can be denominated . Since gold production is limited, it can not meet the growing social and economic development , so the gold standard collapsed . From the later seventies of last century , the world monetary credit system completely behind monetary credit system is a powerful force of national credit and forced the country , so we put the national currency , credit currency called legal tender .

He also said, " we take a look at Bitcoin , Bitcoin is not having the characteristics of these currencies as far as I know, the vast majority of countries do not recognize the Bitcoin currency status . Currency in circulation in addition to the media , the value of scale functions , there is a very important function is denominated instruments . Bitcoin itself is not denominated in the currency , nor as the pricing currency speculation could plunge ● "currency " can be used as currency Bitcoin transactions do good for investment or, it should be noted that the risk of People's Bank and the authorities will continue to monitor the movements of Bitcoin and associated risks , strengthen the monitoring, analysis , and guide the public to establish a correct concept of money and investment philosophy . "

I don't like this whole, "Bitcoin has risk" thing that China likes to do. Seems like its just foreshadowing, "We're gonna crash the price".  Cheesy

Yes, 'bitcoin has risk.' But keep breathing the air in Beijing, nothing to see here...

It has risks because people don't know what governments will come up with in regards to it, so it's governments that are causing that risk and at the same time they are warning others about it... No logic to me.

If anybody cares, yet another tv show that mentions bitcoin.  In the tv show Person of Interest, the feds apparently shut down a black market bazaar that sells drugs online for bitcoins.  I'm still not sure if these shows are trying to bash bitcoin, but in any case they are providing a lot of exposure for bitcoin.

Very cool.

And let's not forget what it did for people in Cyprus and elsewhere because the gov't lost their hard-earned money.
