You can't say anything about the next difficulty jump based on blocks JUST AFTER re-targeting.

Depends on what you mean by "volume."

It's currently the lowest trade volume over the past few hours relative to the same span of time on Huobi since the 1st of January.

Bitcoin mentioned on criminal minds tonight, that makes 4 TV shows this week talking about it. Maybe we'll see the Friday surge again like the past 2 weeks.

Bitcoin is very boring.  This price stability is forcing me to do actual work at work.

bullish pennant
I don't think so.

Pennants are generally symmetrical. They are short-term continuation patterns -- the rise from $455 to the resistance break at $837 took 15 days. The rise and consolidation following that break has now taken ~ 2 weeks.

The three bottoms that form the current moving support also generally form the prior resistance level. Typically, the flag pole forms from the prior resistance break (Gox $837). In this scenario, there is no flagpole. A sharp move should precede the pennant; in this case, the sharp move is contained within it.

Fair enough, I will make a refinement. They're late for their typical trading day.

Bitcoin/USD volatility has been decreasing continuously since it began trading, there is no reason to think this trend is going to change while the rate of adoption remains approximately constant.

The bigger the mass the larger the inertia, simple as that really. It is much easier to get 10,000 people to panic simultaneously than 100,000 ... it is why fiat fractional reserve can work with the popular delusion that your money is safe in the bank, when in fact it doesn't exist in there at all and at best only 10% is ever available for redemption (actually more like 8.7% with the latest Basel rules).

As Bitcoin holders being to number in the millions to tens of millions that "10% panic" number becomes at least a million ... everyone bitching about greedy big btc holders, these are the guys holding steady in face of extreme skepticism/negativism since day zero making this thing work for the ungrateful, skittery, day tarders.

Ungrateful? What does that even mean in this context?

What kind of market (liquidity) do you see existing without traders? And how do you think this would affect volatility?

Indeed, in the 1h charts their volume is very low today, compared to that of the previous 4 days
(which varies with local time in a characteristic way).

It is even lower than the volume on Jan/10, another anomalous day.

The price also has been surprisingly stable for the last two days.  Price stability and low volume, which is cause and which is effect? Or are both effects of some external cause?

I saw it mentioned on Blacklist and Almost Human.
