I think it is a new asset in that as it is being established as a SoV at the same time as it's capabilities of a MoE are being bootstrapped. I think most money has had to really become the first one before it could be the second, and I think Bitcoin is going to overlap more than that.
I see it slightly differently: that it's true calling, as it were, is as a personal, portable, permanent SoV. A kind of undying meta-wallet that we can trivially take across borders and generations. We can choose to grow our stash all our lives, give it to the state in taxes, pass it on, spend it, whatever - it is completely within our - the keyholder's - control. Not the border guards. Unbeholden to or trusting any third party, bank or societal construct. It becomes purely that part of us needed to exchange, from time to time, strategic value with others. In that sense, no other currency is needed. But the means of exchange on an everyday basis, the buying a coffee, is a red herring. It has some importance, yes, but only to demonstrate atht the transfer of value can indeed be performed, trivially, securely and irreversibly. It's a kind of proof of concept to the doubters. Undeniably, for banal shopping a credit card works better. Sometimes you don't trust the person you're buying from. In that case you're buying a judge for that credit card 3% who will usually side with you. I don't have a problem with that. In fact it seems perverse that fighting that service is the ditch Roger and Craig are happy to die in. Let 'em. Very possible scenario... Yet when the SoV aspect is mature I do not see why a robust MoE scenario would not be on tap. My above post I am saying I think the two will overlap, but even if they don't once people are really using it for saving I cannot imagine they would not begin to get interested in spending as well... and there is NO reason credit cards cannot still be the tools we use to do it. I agree Roger is a certain kind of ideologue who wants a world where there are no banks or middle men. I get that. And I know there are many people on this thread who want that as well... Hell, I like the idea too! But the thing is, there will always be banks, and credit cards, and middle men, because they will always offer things most common people are not going to want to take responsibility for. Custody, liquidity, credit... You're right, of course. We're just talking degrees. I suppose Bitcoin is a kind of Rorschach - people see in it reflections of their own concerns and emphases. https://youtu.be/DTtETj3MtzA?t=72

Yes I know I would need batteries and in fact that would be the most expensive part of the project for the amounts of energy I would need to storage. But if the solar panels are able to deliver the 5KW I would need during sun hours then I would move to the second phase before cutting from the grid. If it doesn't then maybe I will anyways install some panels to reduce the electricity bill but my idea of a completely self sustained property would not be viable.
I suppose there are many differences between a small boat/RV installation and a home one. Main one being the space limitation to install enough panels and maintaining the proper orientation and angle against the sun.
It's really all pretty much the same. The main difference is the type of voltages required. Higher voltages mean you can run your wires farther on a narrower gauge wire with less resistance. Typical electrical instillation's want to stay below 80% of your total capacity. ie, if you want 5kW of continuous load then plan on having a 6kW or higher system. Like I mentioned before having a good inverter is key. You don't want a bunch of noise in your circuit playing havoc with valuable electronics. If I can get near 80% max output from the panels then I guess this would be viable and cost effective. Panel price has dropped a lot in the past few years. Just an example: https://autosolar.es/paneles-de-conexion-a-red/panel-solar-270w-talesun-policristalinoAnd they can bought even cheaper. So, at less than 0.5$/Watt I would say the ROI would be reasonably good. Good advice that of the inverter. The panels I understand don't matter that much and mostly just care about the cost per Watt, but will be very careful on choosing a good inverter thanks! 0.5$/Watt at peak performance. Gotta remember to average it over 24 hours. Then include the loss from battery storage, seasonal changes and cloudy days. Still a fun project, and potentially important in case of large scale failure. I like the idea of self sufficiency. Be warned that the state does not.

+1 WOsMerit +1 WOsMerit No flash for you..great movie though. ------------ 3h My cat has gone missing again.. ahem anyway...look at that volume. Something seems to be brewing. We have broken into the resistance area with this mostly sideways and upwards trend we have been experiencing. I will be interested in seeing how the market reacts to this little flat transition we are approaching. #dyor #stronghands'19

you find a pool? *grumbles* Is there a thread somewhere we can coordinate stuff and things for Grin mining ? Was thinking of throwing a 1080ti at it later tonight for shits and giggles. Yea, I am throwing a 1070 ti at F2Pool. What the hell. I mined Monero very early on under 50 cents. You never know.

I'll let it mine for a couple of months it seems. If it goes sub $1 levels, I'll throw $100 and wait. If it goes sub $0.1 (it can go even lower tbh), will throw another $100 and that's it. No more investments after.

Morning WO's. Mining Grin with my 2 test rigs. (4x1080ti, 4xVega64). 1080ti: 4.25gps per card Vega64: 2.95 gps per card Combined I get 5-6 grin per day ATM. Tried sparkpool buts seems dodgy to me after today - wanting to link an exchange for payouts. Switched back to grinmint.com Is there a thread somewhere we can coordinate stuff and things for Grin mining ?
Look no further, BTCWO coordinates everything

Mining @ https://www.mwgrinpool.com - It feels so strange to me that you send payments to an IP:Port ? Does not seem very good for OpSec. 3.89 gps with my 1080ti ? *shrugs* Still trying to figure out this Keybase user stuff. Installed the app, but it has some Stellar wallet in it ?! EDIT: Moved to f2pool Yea, I just set up one card in a pc for tonight. I am going to spend time tomorrow looking into running a node and wallet. Try to catch up on the tech. I shut down most of my mine for the summer here in the southern hemisphere. We are moving so most of my gear is in boxes at the moment. Going to watch a movie. See you all later. Oh I am only getting 2.5-2.6 gps on my 1070ti

Well it made me look a bit at the Grin tech and site. Did you look at it? It's honestly really interesting. I find it cool to see such projects getting endorsed by the forum, especially as Theymos clearly stated that the price will be downtrend at begining and that buying it is extremely risky. It's not like he was trying to make people invest in it, just putting a new tech under the spotlight. Don't know, I find it cool.

But I'm more back again for "UTXO Analysis Points to a BTC Price Bottom in Q1 2019" is there any solid grounds on UTXO analysations? To my mind the amount of "HODL" doesn't impact the economy of crypto useage. Prices are made on exchanges, not inside cold store.
