What's most astonishing is how folk are still willing to lend their coin on these exchanges for next to nothing. What does it mean to make 3% or less interest per year if you're going to face random 16% or more haircuts?

For 3% per year, I'd trust stock brokerages a little bit more than crypto exchanges. Say what you will about fiat and regulations, but those things are insured.

That's plain nuts. I don't know how people could keep using Poloniex after that. Clams has always been a Grade B Shitcoin. Its biggest claim to fame is when John Oliver mocked it because of its name one time in a segment about cryptocurrencies.

Obviously they are betting they can get away with it legally-speaking, but I definitely wouldn't revisit them after this.

Hopefully, you are not betting anywhere close to 100%. and even betting greater than  80% would be crazy in my thinking... but hey, each person has his/her own risk-taking tolerance.
