Off grid? SMS isn't exactly off grid, is it?

Also, isn't internet service more widespread than phone service? Where I am in a sparsely populated part of Mexico, we have no landline or cell phone service but internet service is fairly reliable. I have friends in rural Costa Rica in the same situation. Everybody uses Whatsapp to make voice calls here, even businesses.

If you've got access to cellphone service you've probably got internet connectivity.

What am I missing here?

Surely SMS is not an off Grid Transaction, like as I said, relies on an infrastructure grid that can be quite pervasive.

Regarding you situation I am frankly quite surprised on how you can have internet without landlines or mobile coverage.

In Italy the reverse is true. Where landline do not arrive (because anticonomical to cover those villages via cable) internet comes with mobile network. But mobile phone coverage is almost a prerequisite for internet coverage. How can internet arrive in remote villages without even a mobile connection?

All that says is that 57.3%of the world (4.3B) have internet access (all forms) and 3.8B people (51.8%) use mobile internet.

It doesn't say anything about how many people have SMS access without having internet access. Presumably these would be the ones who would need to use SMS for Bitcoin transactions.

I guess I'm one of the half billion who doesn't use mobile to access the internet. The only SIM card I have is in my old flip phone. I use wifi to access the internet on my smart phone. Wifi is almost everywhere and is free. A penny saved is a penny earned. Buy a phone with cash and don't pay a penny after that.

I know you can do a contest on freelancer and ask for digital visuals. But I was wondering if there was a place specifically for artists of all mediums, not just digital.

I figure I'd see about commissioning some artistic representation for what we went through in Thailand...something I could hang on the wall. Since people have time on their hands.

But I don't have any favorite artists or even know what I would want.
