It is only a small step for Microsoft to allow portion of accounts to be held in bitcoin ... and then to allow withdrawls or spends of bitcoin to non-MS addresses ... suddenly your microsoft account starts to look a lot like your coinbase account ... but with a massively larger installed userbase and trusted brand identity behind it ... and Microsoft is head-to-head in a digital payments war with old foe Apple's Applepay

Upon reading this, it occurs to me that youth in the west might be a more likely adopter than third world right now. Lots of disposable income, access to technology and no access to bank accounts and credit cards.

This occurs to you now? Bitcoin has always been tilted toward the privileged, the wealthy, the computer literates. That's the reason it's so successful.

All this unbanked fantasy is just from hipsters, the "feel good" social justice warrior types, same as this "currency" nonsense.

True, BTC China did a poll in late 2013 and 90% of their user base had a college degree.

Billions of poor uneducated people in China but they are the minority trading Bitcoin.

And I don't know how things are in Lambchop's country, but here national transfers are not instant(they have some deadline to do it) and when not between same banks they charge a fee bigger than BTC transaction fees

Since CC transactions are approximately x100,000,000 more common than BTC transactions, I'm certain you know people who had trouble with CC.  I know some folks who lost a bit of BTC tho.  Remember Mt.Gox?
NotLambchop's current country is US, not that it matters:  We are discussing INTERNAL transfers, not bank-to-bank transfers.  Intra-bank transfers are always free.

Imo, there's no creation of demand to want to pay w/ BTC here or any other place unless there's a discount to get newer people to go through the steps to acquire it and learn how to use it. We all know it's demand that drives this market forward and up. Similarly, this is why most of the household shoppers use their CVS card at CVS and their Walgreen card at Walgreen: to get better prices and save money. Pointless otherwise.

The poor "unbanked" of the third world don't have spare money, and that's why they live in shanty towns and mud huts. If there ever is a time that they have any, they want to hold it and keep it safe, not convert it to some public key somewhere in the cloud. And where do they store the private key on the PC or smart phone that they don't own?

Oh, but they can print a paper wallet. Good luck telling a poor person with little to no education that he or she can give their money to a machine somewhere, pay a fee, and get a piece of paper in return, after presenting their photo ID (which they probably don't have) and other personal info. They'd probably just look at you with a blank look on their face, walk away, and tell their friends later about the crazy white guy who tried to swindle their money away.
