I like the stacking the way it is now. For my purpose two sidewalls plus some option to mount a pi or PSU on top of it would be perfect. This case would look extremely simple, like this:

sorry for my paint skills.

red are the fans like shown before and blue some mounting holes or small feets. I like the stacking, even though it has 99 fans on it.

just my 2 satoshis

At this stage I'm in limbo between DHL and UPS. The former is a bit cheaper the latter is a bit more reliant.
For the numbers you can calculate it online on their websites, weight per module: ~500g.
For bigger numbers of boards I'll ship them in multiple packages.

UPS!

I have lost a staggering amount of parcels through DHL this year. Only use DHL if it is express. If you knew what DHL did with my last FPGA package (They sent it back and forth, sure that they are too stupid enough to read my doorbell...) and last packages from the US, definitely go with UPS.

you can do it only  this way if you have 6 boards with 3 fans. But not with more, because it overturns then.

Sure, i was only drawing six because i got tired  Grin

you can use a one-size-fits-all case, providing space for 8 pieces. If you only have 2 this is not the perfect case for you, but with 4+ you can get either more space between each or simply use half of the case, putting other stuff in the other half. A shee-metal bend to the form of a U with screws coming from the sides would provide a fitting for any possible combination (every second slot is used, every third or whatev you like). Maybe this couldbe considered Smiley

also you can make a case for 4 units, if you need to stack 8 just put another one next to it.

You might check out this test about german shipment providers: http://www.computerbild.de/artikel/cb-Tests-Sicherheit-Paketdienste-Test-DHL-Hermes-DPD-GLS-6816000.html
They shipped measuring devices to check how they handle the packages. DHL won overall and was the fastest.

UPS is so slow. The Best is DHL express with much fast and tracking friendly service! U pay more but they definitely deserve it!

Cant follow you in that case, I ship daily a lot with several services in our business & in Central Europe they are the fastest. They can handle high senstive products like that & in my opinion are worth their money when transporting such risky items. DHL Express is also OK for their money but it will be always the higher price level services you have to choose, don`t care what provider you have.

Had 3 weeks ago again problems with DHL as they needed over a week from Germany to Austria. Finally our normal post guy brings it in - paying a lot to DHL that they outsourced and changed it to stupid normal post way sending. Just my point!

I've been messing around with a 4 board, single 120mm fan arrangement:

Board is 10 x 15 cm.

But wiring would be tricky.

looooll...design by KNC ;-) ..but really not bad....

cause of security reasons, such a device need a full case around...my opinion
And i think that the heatsinks will not have enough space. Look at brunin's ones

Hmm, read about KNC, but never looked at their setup. Guess we think alike.  Grin (Anyone got a link to their designs?)

Heatsinks are "custom". Plenty of room. Fan is 120mm. Wiring can be routed through side slots.
Of course it's all prototype until the boards ship.

Burnin, do you think 12v 15A power supply will be fine for 3 boards?
Your specs say each board with 20 chips will draw approx. 40W, that is 3.33A @ 12v, so for 3 boards it would be exactly 10A, so 15A power supply should handle it fine... I was thinking about something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-12V-15A-180W-Switch-Power-Supply-Driver-For-LED-Strip-Light-Display-220V-4-/200725152098?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET&hash=item2ebc26c162

looking at those gaps between PCBs - I think one more can fit in - a pentagram would create nice devil's machine Smiley
