Well, it looks like I spoke a little too soon.  Turns out a couple of the boards have issues.

On ICA 3, one of the white LEDs (DONE2) does not light up, and it only hashes at half speed.

ICA 7 sometimes produces storms of HW errors, and inaccurate hashrate report, though its performance (accepted shares) seems unaffected.

The other 8 are running fine.

I guess I'll find out what warranty support is like.  I foolishly didn't really research it before buying.

I had a similar issue (to the ICA 3) on a Lancelot after the firmware upgrade, basically one of the two Fpga is not hashing. I think you can try to fix it with a Jtag cable and the Xilinx Lab Tools software, instead of sending everything back in China...

I got my Lancelots, assembled a stack of four of them, git pulled the latest cgminer, but cgminer does not seem able to handle four of them.

I tried switching the fourth one I had turned on with another in case it was a bad board, but it just cannot seem to handle four boards period.

It even gets segfaults, no hardware should be able to segfault the mining program, it has to be something broken with the software.

To compile it with icarus support I had to install libusb-devel, that didn't suffice so also had to install libusb1-devel.

It detects four boards, but then claims they are all zombies and invents another four, claims they are all zombies, invents yet another four and so on, in /tmp it has 90 or more imagined devices from constantly inventing more of them.

So I tried BFGminer. It is even worse, it cannot get anywhere with them, at least with cgminer I had occassionally gotten as many as three of them to work.

I tried starting a second copy of cgminer to try to use just the fourth board, but it basically seemed to be claiming all USB devices were in use or something.

Even only running three it still had problems, else maybe by now I would be setting up four computers to run three boards each.

I am using Fedora Core 17, 64 bit.

The USB cables are plugged into a "USB-HUB 113" 13 ports USB 2.0 hub from NewEgg.

I am now starting to clutch at straws, like wondering how to detect whether the USB port the hub is plugged into on the computer is USB 2.0 or higher or lower...

This is with four boards switched on:

Aha, Luke-Jr on #bitcoin-mining on Freenode helped me, saying cgminer must have trashed the driver(s), unplug the hub from the computer plug it back in and try bfgminer again. I did and am now seeing much nicer display:

Code:
ICA 0:                | 446.7/355.8/  0.0Mh/s | A:0 R:0+0(none) HW:0
 ICA 1:                | 448.5/356.1/  0.0Mh/s | A:0 R:0+0(none) HW:0
 ICA 2:                | 446.9/356.1/  0.0Mh/s | A:0 R:0+0(none) HW:0
 ICA 3:                | 447.0/339.5/  0.0Mh/s | A:0 R:0+0(none) HW:0

Looks pretty nice for purportedly 400 MHash devices! Smiley

In fairness, I would not be surprised if now the USB drivers are reset, cgminer might also be able to work now.

But I am going to unpack and set up more of my boards before bothering to check that. Smiley

I am using Fedora Core 17, 64 bit.

Try cgminer 3.1.1 . (unplug and re-plug the usb cables after stopping 3.2.0). 3.2.0 has issues with natively using usb for block erruptors, maybe the same issue for lancelot, since both are Icaracus.

By default ICA when hooked in gets mapped as a serial port device ttyUSBx . Cgminer 3.2.0 unmaps that so that it can directly talk to it. This "enhancement" is broken for linux....

'cd cgminer'
'git checkout v3.1.0'

If you're having trouble running 4 boards at once, check your power supply, and try a different one or two.

I didn't change the firmware since receiving them.  Is it easy to change?  I have a Xilinx Platform Cable, though I've never used it...

I'll get out the included Lancelot manual and RTFM when I get home in case it tells me.

'cd cgminer'
'git checkout v3.1.0'

If you're having trouble running 4 boards at once, check your power supply, and try a different one or two.

3.1 claims all devices are disabled, it cannot see anything out there even with -S all.

Doing checkout for 3.1.1 I get

[2013-06-04 16:33:03] Started cgminer 3.1.0
[2013-06-04 16:33:03] Icarus Detect: Failed to open all
[2013-06-04 16:33:03] All devices disabled, cannot mine!

So it apparently does not even know its own version number.

-MarkM-

EDIT: I tried another power supply, as I have one per four boards, shipped with the boards, supplies supposedly specifically for powering four boards each.

Second one I tried also did not handle four.

But, powering only three with the first brick and the fourth with the second brick I now have all four working! Thanksfor the power tip!

It seems maybe these bricks they say will power four can maybe only do three for some reason. Maybe they put in a more intense bitstream? Or maybe my power from the wall here in Halifax isn't up to par? When they test the boards do they actually test them (or any) using these power supplies? Seems to me I saw great big silvery things in the king kong attack picture that looked like they were maybe power supplies? So maybe the assertion that these bricks can power four boards is out of date or only applies if you downclock or something?

I should have bought one brick per three boards instead of one per four boards by the look of it...

EDIT2: Even three boards can be too much sometimes it seems. One of them I was able to get it to power three boards by restarting, but another even restarting did not do the trick so I left it at two boards. The bricks say on them 12 volts 10 amps, so I guess in theory they ought to be able to power four boards. So I ended up running a stack of eight boards on the three bricks and pulling an ATX out of a past-end-of-life old 32-bit machine to power a stack of the other four boards. (I only got twelve of them.) If I get more I won't bother with the bricks, the paperclick trick on an ATX power supply is too easy and beyond-end-of-life computers are easy to come by; I have another right here already in fact, or one that is darn close it it anyway.

how are you starting cgminer and what did you put into the config??

News: It looks like we're going to receive a batch of Spartan 6 FPGAs sooner therefore all orders scheduled for 27/06 will be shipped on 17/06.

Update: Xilinx informed us that they cannot deliver now the large batch and do not know when they can deliver.

Morale: Do not rely on Xilinx official channels! Our luck is that we've placed multiple orders through different channels so we're still on track with the 27/06 delivery.

Maybe we need to make a product with Altera's FPGAs; Xilinx is obviously not reliable.

We've received the small batch of FPGAs from a 3rd party as scheduled. We're starting manufacturing tomorrow so we'll ship on 13th of June. The delay is due to China's Official Holidays 10-12 (Dragon Boat Festival).

We manufacture Bitcoin ASICs and Bitcoin mining equipment.

Pimp My Rig - episode 4

Today I received the new Papst 512 fans: small, high flow, ball-bearing, for heavy duty applications and long MTBF.

Most probably they will outlast the FPGAs, I'll end using them on my next bitcoin creature  Grin

Some pics (no more pyramid, sorry):

Installed on the heatskinks, with some "lateral help" Smiley

Note that the Sunbeam fans are a trophy from the good old modding times, I don't know how many people here was passionate (10 years ago) about overclock and modding Grin

Update to cgminer - new version 3.2.1
Should see a reduction in errors and the display now shows new hotplug devices
(and displays all zombie devices last)
... among other changes Smiley
