Reggie is not going to act in an irresponsible manner No. But he can't prevent the market from acting in an "irresponsible manner". Lets think about this for a moment. That effective supply puts Veritasium's "real" marketcap at around 3.7 Million BTC. (Ripple is 4.1 Million). i.e. nearly a quarter of bitcoin's entire coin supply. So it would be the third or fourth largest asset in ranking on coinmarketcap.com. Not saying that's necessarily unreasonable in terms of future potential (i.e. speculative) but for such a large valuation to have some genuine basis it must make the monetary cryptos massively undervalued (since they are going to form much of the lower capitalisation tiers of the coming synthetic 'vehicles' that will be traded on the VERI platform) - which in turn makes the current VERI/Ether or BTC price massively overvalued does it not ? What should happen now is that VERI moves up a few notches in marketcap ranking - but with the full coin supply reported. So lets say it went to where Bitshares is (an equivalent type of asset but a mature platform so being kind to Veritasium by letting it get that far in only 30 days after launch instead of taking 3 years and needing to actually deliver some functioning software that's hosting trades like Bitshares has done). That would put the VERI marketcap at around quarter of a million BTC. Coin exchange rate with Ether would therefore be around 0.02. i.e. 50 Veri per Ether. Current price: 0.32. 16 times overvalued ? How you wish to value tokens is up to you but you say that Veritaseum needs to actually deliver some functioning software which makes it seem that you are unaware of the software that we have put out. We have a working peer-2-peer client that allow for users to mimic exposure to thousands of tickers and was hosting trades. It was taken down from public use because we did not want to get a letter from any regulators. We have also created an alpha version of our VeADIR which is functioning but still in the making. |

We will look back and laugh at this $103 price tag on VERI pretty soon I reckon. The large exchange must be just round the corner and I'm willing to bet Reggie had a promising business trip today.
If you want VERI then I can honestly advise EtherDelta is a good exchange. Have used them twice now with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. It is easy once you figure it and there are plenty of videos about it on youtube now. You will be glad you did figure it as they list tokens very quickly compared to the big boys. If the kinda numbers you see on there would suit your budget, then there is nothing stopping you buying VERI today.
That exchange has been around for years!

Edit: just read your post Fern, would that have been the cause of the price spike? Is it really that easy to push VERI into the top 10, in terms of market cap, on coinmarketcap.com, if only temporarily? Makes me wonder if this was really fat-fingered.

It seems it takes some practice with EtherDelta to get the hang of things. It's also not in real-time so patience is required. There are some fat fingers spiking the price high, up to $1500 per VERI. These are for relatively small amounts. Excuse me?

VERI is now at a $102.72 on CoinMarketCap.com I wouldn't rely on Etherdelta for any real price discoveries as it's a very thinly traded market. I expect it to hover between .25-.40 Veri-ETH until a larger exchange picks up Veritaseum. |

Sorry not sure what you mean...? The ICO is over now but you can pick them up safely on EtherDelta after you watch a video on how to use the exchange. But sorry I don't know what you mean by "ICO specific data"...? |

Between 25th of April and 26th of May 2017. Is it worth having? Yes. But what you need to know is that you are not buying a currency but tokens to use software services. Etherdelta is a joke. Just look at the order book right now. There are orders for 0.00500 VERI/ETH! And looking at expiry date gives you 1e+29 blocks. Yes that is 100000000000000000000000000000 blocks or approx 100 billion x 4756468797.56 years. What a joke. I believe that trading on delta is harmful to the whole VERI ecosystem. And then someone intentionally (or accidentally) clicks on orders like 0.00511 ratio and the price of VERI just plunges. The same applies for the other extreme when someone is buying 10 : 1 ratio (10 ETH to 1 VERI). Coinmarket cap periodically checks for the price and because shitty etherdelta does not provide normalised VERI price returns such as outrageous flip flops. This reflects bad on VERI itself. Can we block/prohibit trading on Etherdelta somehow? It is a joke and harmful to us and potential buyers which produces such episodes as this one: Mehmet Ozturk@mto_46_twitter 11:37Veritaseum was yesterday at 528 dollar. Unless you know what you're doing you shouldn't be buying or selling outside of this band. (today 0.2916 <sellers> 0.3077 <buyers> 0.3333) Since Etherdelta is a distributed exchange, and takers can take any order, it is going to have these regressions. VERI is a complicated piece of software. It is not an investment. Those who wish to accumulate can still use Etherdelta; the reward down the road will be apparent when the services are rolled out from Veritaseum. Speculators or people looking for a get rich token should steer clear. VERI is software to buy services. This is how they are accounted for. |
