Fascinating thread on Twitter (no wonder I can't get anything done - lol).

"...so far, the primary “commerce” use case emerging for Bitcoin is to buy *other digital assets*"

What happens to Bitcoin and Ethereum when 90% of those digital assets fail?

If you check out the thread, ignore the bruised egos of the guys freaking out that he had the audacity to refer to Satoshi as a women (in lighthearted humor, no doubt).

@adamludwin Mar 22

1/Satoshi said Bitcoin was for “commerce on the internet” (the first four words of the Bitcoin whitepaper). Turns out she was right. But not in the way most people think – and probably not even in the way she imagined.

2/A naive interpretation of “commerce on the internet” is to imagine traditional e-commerce merchants accepting Bitcoin as a method of payment. That hasn’t happened for a bunch of reasons and still may not. Time will tell.

3/Another interpretation is that Bitcoin was designed for commerce on the dark web. While that use case happens, Bitcoin isn’t actually well-suited to it due to its transparency. And dark web commerce is now dwarfed by another type of commerce that's become the dominant use case.

4/And no, I’m not talking about Bitcoin as a “store of value.” There’s nothing wrong with thinking of Bitcoin as digital gold or investing/HODL’ing/trading it, but that’s not what “commerce” means (at least not to me).

5/So what *are* people buying with Bitcoin that dwarfs its use in traditional e-commerce and on the dark web? Remarkably, the answer is something that DIDN’T EVEN EXIST when the Bitcoin paper was published and ONLY EXISTS NOW *because* it was published

6/The answer is that, so far, the primary “commerce” use case emerging for Bitcoin is to buy *other digital assets* (re-read prior tweet to see why this is kind of mind blowing).

7/In just the last couple years, billions of dollars in purchases of digital assets have been made with Bitcoin (and Ether).

8/So either Satoshi is/was playing n-dimensional chess and knew Bitcoin would become the settlement currency for an ecosystem of digital assets that Bitcoin itself would catalyze through its example...

9/...or, more likely, Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem has giving rise to an emergent “commerce” use case that no one, including Satoshi, could have predicted.

10/Yet this is exactly what any student of technology SHOULD have expected (hindsight is 20/20!). New mediums rarely succeed by transforming the old. They give rise to the new.

11/This notion of emergence has been talked about by people like @cdixon @fredwilson @naval @cburniske and others (hat tips to them!) But it’s no longer just about future potential, we can already see a full cycle where an emergent phenomenon has begun to fulfill Satoshi's vision

12/Ultimately, the implication for everyone in the crypto/blockchain space is to continue to look ahead to (and create) *new forms of value* that are possible now that the internet has an open, bourgeoning economic infrastructure. [end]

New blog post on DNotesEDU:

Fraud Prevention – Falling for the Big Win

A phone call or email arrives with the news you have won the lottery, a trip, a contest, or some other prize – wow! The problem is, if you never bought a ticket or entered a draw for this windfall, it is likely a scam. The fraud is confirmed as soon as they ask you to send money to cover delivery, fees, taxes, or any other expense. Everyone should take the time to learn how to spot these and other scams, and protect themselves from financial loss.

Download the DNotes 2.0 pre-alpha windows build and source code:
https://github.com/DNotesCoin/DNotes2.0/releases/tag/v2.0.0.0-pre
Please use the master branch here to build on linux, instead of the zipped source files:
https://github.com/DNotesCoin/DNotes2.0

Release Notes

DNotes 2.0 Pre-Release Alpha
This pre-release is an open alpha for individuals to test out features of the upcoming DNotes 2.0 release. This network and all associated address balances will be wiped before the final DNotes 2.0 production release. The dnotes-qt.exe executable available with this pre-release should work on most modern Windows operating systems.

New Features for DNotes 2.0
Switch from Proof Of Work to Proof Of Stake with ~2% annual staking reward.
Updated transaction fees to be destroyed.
Added display of DNotes and Wallet value in USD (based on coinmarketcap's API).
Added DNotes news feeds.
Added invoice number support for sending NOTE to an address. The format to specify an invoice number when sending to an address is (address)+(invoice number).
Added CRISP payouts for keeping NOTE Balance in the same address for a period of time. For the alpha release network, the payouts happen approximately every day. The first payout block is 1500 and additional payouts happen every 1440 blocks. The final production release will payout approximately every month instead.

Post your DNotes 2.0 pre-alpha address here or send an email to contact@dnotescoin.com, and we will send you some coins.

Regression Testing
For those of you that are familiar with running console commands, if you would like to participate in regression testing, please use this form:
https://goo.gl/forms/uBpPxgmPs2tWetBG3

Invoice Number
This is the first step in the implementation of the automated invoicing system, allowing you to add an invoice number to a transaction.
You may attach an invoice number after the address by adding a plus sign after the address, followed by the invoice number.

Example:
Address = ScsZXeo2PeLzNPVcjHdtkjQX5zY6phjTEm
Invoice Number = 1kH98asd9Hb3U8aksdnJNgs7923nasdj
Send Payment to = ScsZXeo2PeLzNPVcjHdtkjQX5zY6phjTEm+1kH98asd9Hb3U8aksdnJNgs7923nasdj
The client will recognize the difference between the address and invoice number and store them on the blockchain accordingly.

Scenario you can test:
Send a payment to an address with a random invoice number attached as the example above outlines.
Verify in your transactions that the invoice number was attached.
You should also be able to verify this independently from any node by getting the transaction id, going to the console (help > debug window > console), and typing gettransaction <transaction id>

Example:
Address = ScsZXeo2PeLzNPVcjHdtkjQX5zY6phjTEm
Invoice Number = 1kH98asd9Hb3U8aksdnJNgs7923nasdj
Transaction id = 2e56d470d068a89d51bf20f83c25622d7d5dc16f9a0b7763d3e6940733d4d791-000
gettransaction 2e56d470d068a89d51bf20f83c25622d7d5dc16f9a0b7763d3e6940733d4d791-000
Look for: "invoiceNumber" : "1kH98asd9Hb3U8aksdnJNgs7923nasdj"
And verify it matches your invoice number.

Note: Our block explorers will look for invoice numbers and have an API to call from invoice number. We may implement a RPC call for it as well. This will allow anyone to independently verify a address and invoice number from anywhere.

Staking
If you are familiar with the staking process, there are no significant changes.
1 minute block times.
Block reward is 2% of total coins in circulation, divide by the number of blocks in a year.
How much you actually earn will depend on how many coins people are currently staking.
Weighted against the network.

Block Reward Example:
Number of Coins = 130,000,000
2% of 130,000,000 = 2,600,000
Number of blocks in a year = 525,600
Block reward: 2,600,000 / 525,600 = 4.94672754...
The block reward will change every block.

Note: You will experience blocks that are staked and then later rejected.

How to stake:
Setup and staking video:
https://youtu.be/2w9r2LoXM6c
Open your wallet - Open dnotes-qt.exe
Encrypt your wallet - Settings > Encrypt Wallet > Enter password > Enter Password Again > Click ok > Click ok > wallet will close. Re-open wallet.
Make sure you have coins in your wallet and they are confirmed and mature.
Unlock your wallet - Settings > Unlock Wallet > Enter password > Click ok.
In the lower left the lock should be unlocked and the up arrow should be green. You will now be staking. You can hover your mouse over the lock and the up arrow to see the status.

CRISP
CRISP reward will be 0.5% every 1440 blocks (1 day for pre-release, but it will be 1 month for actual release). This will occur automatically.

Note:
All coins must remain in the same address for the entire period.
If you deposit at 1441, you will not receive CRISP reward at block 2880, your first CRISP reward would be block 4320.

Scenarios to test:
If you received CRISP reward with an online wallet.
If you received CRISP reward with an online and staking wallet.
If you received CRISP reward with an offline wallet.

From the Chicago Evening Post:

DNotes Global, Inc. Announces White Paper Release, Outlining Bold New Vision for Digital Currency Adoption

http://chicagoeveningpost.com/2018/03/24/dnotes-global-inc-announces-white-paper-release-outlining-bold-new-vision-for-digital-currency-adoption/

I am inundated with new LinkedIn connections the last couple of days. It will be interesting to see how many can truly understand and appreciate our commitment to do the right thing by going for a legally compliance Reg, A+ Mini-IPO verse ICO. My feeling is that many are lacking the knowledge and there is now a pronounced disgust that ICOs has caused significant damages to our industry. Reportedly, over 90% of them has failed and many ran away with the money.

What DNotes supporters should know is that we are gaining recognition and respect from the mainstream media. I am glad that Chicago Evening Post picked our story. My bet is that many more will before long.

As the white paper makes clear, DNotes is a “big bold vision of global scale: to create a truly inclusive supplemental currency that is accessible to everyone in the world.” According to Yong, however, the achievement of that goal is not something that can just be left to chance. He suggested that it is also not something that can be accomplished on a limited scale.

“Realistically, mass acceptance of digital currency cannot be achieved in isolation, on a small scale, with inadequate funding, an unsettled vision, and wrong timing,” he declared. “Arnold H. Glasow said it best when he said, ‘Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.’ DNotes is guided by these simple principles and insights from my book, “Improve Your Odds: The Four Principles of Business Success.

Be honest. How many of you have read our white paper yet? Or spent one minute to read of our pitch deck? I believe that it is always better to be knowledgeable than just follow the herd.

Give us some feedback. It will be very much appreciated.

I can confirm that I have read the above Smiley. I'm also very interested in hearing feedback, especially any views to make our project even better. We have been putting a lot of effort into reaching out to interested groups to spread our content.

I'm very glad that Chicago Tribune picked up the article!

Thank you CryptoJohn. Always good to see you.

We are now very well positioned to take the next leap forward. Holding on to your DNotes as a long-term investor is a good thing. It may take a while for investors to understand our business model. We are uniquely different and fully committed to promote DNotes as the inclusive trusted digital currency for global commerce. I trust that after the successful launch of DNotes 2.0 more people will figure it out.

DNotes 2.0 Launch Scheduled for Early April (Exact Date TBD)

POS
2% Annualized Staking Reward
Individual blocks reward will be Total Coins / 525,600
60 Second Block Target
0.005 Transaction Fee
Source: https://github.com/DNotesCoin/DNotes2.0

Windows and Linux wallets will be available at launch. MAC to follow shortly after.

The launch will include the following features:
CRISP Reward - 0.5% interest every 30 days. Awarded by address. Calculated on a 30 day cycle.
Automated Invoicing (First Phase) - Integrated blockchain invoice number

The next update (TBD) will include:
Deferred Staking

There will be a soft deadline where DNotes mined after that block will not be redeemable for 2.0 coins:
4/16/2018
Block# 2180897
133,574,552 Will be the total swappable amount of DNotes we create
+20,000,000 Allocated to DNotes Global, Inc for Development & Growth Fund
153,574,552 Total DNotes 2.0 Created

DNotes 2.0 Swap process
All DNotes on the DNotesVault will be automatically swapped for users. The DNotesVault will be down an estimated 2 days to complete the DNotesVault swap. There will be an extended period before and after the swap where withdrawals will be disabled, with a target of 4 days and no more than 7. So please be aware if you would like to have immediate access to your DNotes around the time of the swap, you will want to withdraw them.

All other users will be able to fill out a form or email us to perform a manual swap where they will have to send us their DNotes in exchange for DNotes 2.0.

All coins can be swapped until the Soft Deadline 4/16/2018. Including all newly mined coins up to Block# 2180897.

We have reached out to the exchanges to either briefly delist DNotes, and provide two recommended options:
1) Delist DNotes prior to the swap, requesting their users to remove their DNotes by the deadline. Then relist DNotes with the DNotes 2.0 build.
2) Take DNotes down for maintenance prior to the launch, send us their DNotes to be swapped for DNotes 2.0, notifying their users of the upcoming swap, and bring DNotes back up after the swap has taken place.
The alternative is they continue to list and trade old DNotes, and later do one of the above two options.

Prior to the soft deadline we will notify the mining pools of the upcoming soft deadline and request that they inform their users of the change, and stop mining DNotes at the soft deadline.

After the soft deadline, there will be a fork in the old DNotes network, which we will maintain, for late comers to still be able to swap their coins. No newly mined old DNotes, mined after the soft deadline will be honored for the swap process. Each case after the soft deadline will be reviewed and handled on a case by case basis.

This is getting exciting! Good planning BTW.

Thank you, RJF. Over the last four years we focused on building the most essential and strategic ecosystems with a trusted brand. In our next phase we will be executing at a higher level to get the message out.

DNotes will soon become a newsworthy story to the mainstream media. But it will not happen by accident. A lot of resources are now deployed to work with the mainstream and social media. I trust that one day DNotes will be an amazing live case study for business schools. That is all part of our efforts to help DNotes gain mass adoption.
