The Cost of Virtual Currency Jake Perry 2011-09-26 http://mantlethought.org/content/cost-virtual-currency'This summer has been bookended by two fairly significant events that have put the concept of virtual money squarely back on the table. The first was the hacking of a Bitcoin (an “experimental new digital currency that enables instant payments to anyone”) account in June, and now the soft launch of Google Wallet, Google’s new Android app that turns a phone into a wallet.'

I added a translation of the article. There isn't yet an outcome. The case will be heard on 18 octobre 10AM at the "Tribunal de commerce de Créteil".

While the silver bitcoin thing is interesting - this author doesn't seem to understand that they're not actual bitcoins. The article would have been much better if it was about the casascius coins. By the time I saw this article - Erik Voorhees had already corrected him in the comments. Good to see the bitcoin media-watchdogs on the ball! Silver, like gold, is going up, up, up.
Really???

Taking a Look at Both Sides of Bitcoin Francois Paget 2011-09-28 http://blogs.mcafee.com/mcafee-labs/taking-a-look-at-both-sides-of-bitcoinIf you want to read more about Bitcoin, I recommend Gavin Andresen’s (from acm.org) presentation: “Bitcoin, the World’s First Person-to-Person Digital Currency” and the Raulo white paper: “Optimal Pool Abuse Strategy.” Regarding the various Bitcoin attack vectors, the following Defcon-19 hacking conference white paper is a must-read: “Hacking the Global Economy with GPUs, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Bitcoin.”

This is interesting as a potential class of service for which Bitcoin is the preferred/only payment method, and therefore a driver for base Bitcoin demand.

Should Bitcoins Become Illegal Digital Currency? Attorney Mike Young's Internet Lawyer Blog 2011-09-29 http://mikeyounglaw.com/internet-lawyer/bitcoin-digital-currency/"Bitcoin digital currency differs from traditional currencies and has become an increasingly prominent method of payment in the world of internet commerce." "Though no legislative efforts have yet been undertaken to restrict or ban the usage of Bitcoin digital currency, the United States will perhaps soon see efforts made to stop illegal drug trafficking through placing impediments on the usage of Bitcoin digital currency."

They used very weak reasoning, based on Chuck Schumer's rant about Silk Road. Definitely a plausible scenario, but they give no new evidence for it.

The article gets a positive mention in nypost: This week’s New Yorker offers at least two signals that our nation is indeed gurgling down the drain: 1) The government of North Carolina has essentially been bought by a fat-cat millionaire named Art Pope, and 2) this supposedly stuffy and sophisticated magazine has devoted no less than 10 pages to a profile of 21-year-old country songstress Taylor Swift, not including the gauzy full-page portrait. On the positive side, a piece on the very mysterious creator of the Internet currency bitcoin is more intriguing than it first appears. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/bobbing_for_angles_Ty6bYpDJQVUKGg4FuzxyCJ#ixzz1ZhcyDzNcApparently the 2nd 'suspect' is from Finland - so the New Yorker story has hit the Finnish press (tietoviikko.fi - A Finnish IT magazine) ... some in the Irish media seem keen to claim Satoshi ! *** Discussion thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46652.0 ****

Is that the real article? (The New Yorker one.) Parts of it read like a hurriedly assembled summary of an article. Then, in April, 2011, he sent a note to a developer saying that he had “moved on to other things.” He has not been heard from since. Tells about failed attempts to hack the bitcoin encryption code. Writer tries to deduce Nakamoto’s true identity from clues in his posts and his code. Describes the Crypto 2011 conference of cryptographers, where the writer went looking for Nakamoto. Writer speaks with two possible candidates, Michael Clear and Vili Lehdonvirta, both of whom deny that they are Nakamoto. Also tells about Kevin Groce, who runs a bitcoin-mining operation in Kentucky. Not the standard of writing I'm used to seeing over there.

Is that the real article?
It's just an abstract . Hence the "ABSTRACT" prefix.
