Can someone elaborate on why changing "scrypt(1024, 1, 1) to scrypt(N, 1, 1)." makes GPU mining impossible (at this time)?

You can still mine with GPU's.  I tested and am still getting 24k/h or so but my weak processor does triple that easy.

How is this possible? I did mine some blocks, my balance has YACs.

That's because your cpu does other things also.  If you run a lot of background programs, browsers etc it takes away the CPU Cycle from hashing.

But I'm doing it on a mining rig. Only the GPUs are working, nothing else.

THIS WILL WORK ONLY WITH CPU! YOU HAVE TO MINE WITH THE OFFICIAL CLIENT

Calm down with the caps ... I am mining it with yacoind

I'm doing it on a mining rig that is running cgminer alongside (for another coin)

shouldn't be  aproblem, no?

Not fast enough since you are obviously getting blocks every few seconds, LOL! It should be 60 seconds if only you are the only miner out there.
ATM I'm getting +-1block/5min

They'll work together, but cgminer will need some CPU-power as well. The GPU does all the heavy lifting, but the CPU isn't entirely idle as it handles the communication with the GPU.

I for one, i give up this coin, since 10 CET i am trying to synchronize the client and is not working. Now i am trying again, and it says 15000 blocks and it will sync a block per second. This will be another 4 hours. And if i try to sync the client while mining is reporting 4k more blocks as opposed to the situation when i am launching the client without mining. And if is synchronizing while mining, when is finished it will stop mining and if i launch it again it will report 2.5k more blocks to sync, always.
So i don't know how you managed to mine, but for me, at least with the windows client, is not working.

Meh, he is either bullshitting or he found some exploit to mine with gpus. No chance he can get that mining with client when loads of people get f'all.

my reported hashrate is bouncing around a lot on all 4 machines I have it running on, and it sometimes sits at zero for several seconds.  Nothing else (of any import) running on the machines.  the report seems to be a bit better after running for an hour or so.  BTW, not a single block :-(
