I thought for sure it would take until the end of 2018 but it looks like this summer ethereum might pass it up. With the turmoil around BTC potential splitting, it might be very soon. IMO this is healthy, we will always value bitcoin for being the one that started it all, but it's time for a more dynamic and adaptable currency to take the lead.
Being on the top is very difficult to maintain specially when many people are expecting and looking upon it.  But if your basis on that statement is the  sudden dump or the unstable price value of bitcoin to say it will no longer be the number one, then it is not. As long as bitcoin have many potential investors with it, it will remain on its position. But it is still open to be replace is something better or sudden change will take effect.

BTC is having problems about splitting but besides that a certain platform of ETH was attacked a few days ago. All will be faced with technical problems at the moment and give the best solution for the future. The confrontation between BTC and ETH will never end when both pioneers in crytocurrency and the support from market

BTC is experiencing some instability in the market. Very likely as you say, it will not be the number one for a long time. There will be other money replacing its position.

For now bitcoin is number one among thousands of altcoins located in kriptocurrency, but this certainly does not close the possibility that a bitcoin will someday shift from its peak with another coin which certainly has a value higher than bitcoin, so far Investors are more confident of Bitcoin as a profitable investment place.

i don't think that this will happen with bitcoin as the leader of cryptocurreny. as long as people still trust and believe with bitcoin, bitcoin will always be a king. maybe if bitcoin is become legal and to be like currency/fiat, then the bitcoin position will be replace with other coin so altcoin needs another coin to be reference like what bitcoin did.

The altcoins might have ethereum as the reference coin, but however advancements take place or grow in the crytoworld surely the leader will be bitcoin. Getting replace with some other digital coin is something that won't happen near or after few years time. The growth happened and happening with bitcoin can never be expected with other coins.

May be maintaining the position in the market for long time would be difficult for bitcoin due to extreme competition, but not impossible. Like dollar bitcoin may also rule over the market being a successful currency for long time. It is true that changes and up-gradation occur in technology very quickly and may there would be a currency in future to compete bitcoin but not sure to kick out from market or demolish completely.

Yeah bitcoin could not be the number one forever but I think ethereum would not be the one to exchange it's place,
I think ethereum might not be the one to takes bitcoins place right now maybe in the future.
ETH is not going to replace bitcoin, in my opinion that is never going to happen, at the moment there is no coin that is even close to that and I’m not talking about the market cap, I’m talking about how many merchants accept bitcoin? How many people know of a cryptocurrency other than bitcoin?

I'm in your direction for your opinion on both ether and bitcoin. We don't have to see one is dominating the whole market. These two are the crypto pioneers and their place will not be replaced by another one in the near future.

Competition is good for business but ethereum is far from dethroning bitcoin because the future does not guarantee its gain in value and eth network has not been fully tested and loaded to see how well it will hold up. If only btc transactions with low low fees could not be broadcast on the network am sure this scalability problem would not have happened.
I agree because in business competition is not forever be able to last a long time. many competitors that are aligned with one of etherium eg bitcoin. But if bitcoin can maintain quality or can guarantee its accuracy may bitcoin can survive. in this case we should be able to sort out which ones can be beneficial for its users then that is what will last a long time.
This is true in the world of business but it is not true in the world of currencies, most of the time the world has a reserve currency, a currency that is recognized by the whole world and most of the time that last for a long time, decades and even centuries.
We can't be sure if the bitcoin will last forever or it will replace by another coin to become the no.1 cryptocurrency. In this world there are many possibilities, we can't predict what coin will conquer the cryptocurrency world but I know bitcoin will replace by another coin in the future.

According to me you are absolutely wrong. I would like to ask you how many people actually use ethereum. Compared to Bitcoin very less. And no matter if the prices of Bitcoin falls people will still believe in Bitcoins as they know the prices will surely go up. And ETH is obviously not a good option when you have Bitcoins

ETH was just at $130, honestly how do you see it passing bitcoin in less then 2 months? . Unless you can add some facts to your post I'm just going to assuming you're trolling.

Ethereum is having less than 1 million users, when compared to 10 million+ for Bitcoin. But the biggest negative for Ethereum is that till now it has not been able to attract any sort of interest form the institutional investors.

I agree partially, with the increasing TX fee trader will find a way to reduce its fee or to use another crypto to avoid paying such high fees, some of the trading platform is now imposing a deposit fee of not lower than 1 USD example is the localbitcoins. but it will take a lot of years before it happens.

i'm usually wrong so don't read this:

my gut says that if another coin passes bitcoin, it won't be because of hype, it will be because of undeniable and unstoppable utility.  a lot of coins have interesting/new features, and a number of coins are promising the world, and if they deliver, they have a shot..

a lot of altcoins seem to be trying to add doohickeys and trinkets to bitcoin's blockchain architecture (in order to hype), analogous to duct taping a microwave to the roof of a Porsche and claiming that's better  Roll Eyes

if an altcoin really wants a shot it has to go for higher hanging fruit, it has to build a better engine so-to-speak: it needs to be scalable to billions of users, it must be fungible, it must be versatile (able to interact with another protocol layer which gives added functionality).  maybe this is where bitcoin is going, maybe not, i dont know.

Bitcoin will be number one many more years, there is chance for some new coin to take bitcoin place one day. But that one day will not happen any time soon. There is no coin with support and active community like bitcoin have, that reflects on price, and for some other coin to get to the point where bitcoin is now needs a lot of work and time, is there any coin that anyone here can suggest like a replacement for bitcoin? Some are not decentralized like bitcoin, some will have to many coins, bitcoin is popular and one and only for now and next 10 years, we will see for later, if some nre high-tech coin appear maybe I will change my mind.

Amid the many problems surrounding Bitcoin, there are many who are proclaiming that soon Bitcoin can fall off from its leadership position and can be replace by another cryptocurrency...possibly Ethereum. Nice prediction and there were those who believed the idea...UNTIL Ethereum crashed and its value plummeted for a while.

Now, we realized that Bitcoin, despite its myriad of challenges it is currently facing and can be facing in the future, remains to be the number 1 and the king of cryptocurrency all the rest are just altcoins. Actually, there is no point comparing Bitcoin and Ethereum as they both have different uses and maybe even different markets.

I do have Bitcoin and Ethereum as well and they are not having some sort of a verbal war in my wallet.

Actually, there is no point comparing Bitcoin and Ethereum as they both have different uses and maybe even different markets.

Right now, the primary use for both these currencies is for investment purposes. They were destined as currencies, but right now they are mostly being used as investment assets. So a comparison can be made.
