I don't believe the hype in any of these ICOs which are coming out and most are scams or likely scams in the long term. ICOs are just out to make their quick money and then bail on the project.

That might be true. But I do not believe Ethereum will be able to hold their gains for long. Sooner or later the price has to go down simply because that is what markets do.

So always remind yourself not to get lost in the mania and try to stay objective. In a market like this, it is easy to think that the good days will never end.

Yeah normaly there is always ups and down in the market because it depends on the supply and demand. The best thing to do is monitor the market to earn more profit periodically, That's how trading works.

I thought for sure it would take until the end of 2018 but it looks like this summer ethereum might pass it up. With the turmoil around BTC potential splitting, it might be very soon. IMO this is healthy, we will always value bitcoin for being the one that started it all, but it's time for a more dynamic and adaptable currency to take the lead.
I do not think it will end in 2018, or it has ended I believe altcoin replaced it is not ETH. If trader still hold bitcoin think it will still exist.

If Bitcoin will be not number one for long, I wonder who will be because the price of bitcoin is almost 7500 dollars while all other altcoins are below 1000 dollars in price. I think that Bitcoin will be number one for much longer than you think and I predict it to be still number one in year 2025 and why not up to year 2030. I don't see any real competition to bitcoin from any of the altcoins.

It's hard to say for sure, bitcoin has been running for 9 years without any problems, and unbelievable currency growth began only in this year, and as I'm thinking that this is not bitcoin limit. Such cryptocurrencies as etherium has no chance to keep up with bitcoin at the moment. In the future, everything is possible, because bitcoin cost once was also miserable.

Bitcoin has been at the top for so long. Without bitcoin heading virtual currencies we wouldnt have any of the others. I don't think it will ever go down. It might normalize in the long run but not totally go down.

Guys we live in a world where any scenario is possible, no matter how impossible it seems to us at the moment. And now things are happening very rapidly. Yes that would displace bitcoin from the first place, and especially now it seems impossible.

For the earlier few months, the industry caps of Ethereum and Bitcoin have remained virtually similar in measurement. No 1 knows which 1 of them will acquire in the conclude. If SegWit is executed, then the chances are that Bitcoin will emerge as the dominant currency, and Ether will fade in to oblivion. But if some bug is identified with SegWit, or if it can't be activated, then ETH will be having a good shot at the prime position.

It's the dream of each and every altcoin to exceed bitcoin. But, dream is dream, and altcoin is altcoin, and can remain to be. No way ethereum will ever move bitcoin to get the number one. Not ethereum, nor every other altcoin.

It can't be overtaken because it's expensive?  Because it's got the market share?  That's what Sears said.  That's what Kodak said.  That's what AOL said.  And Myspace.  So what I'm saying is that those really aren't rational answers are they?  As soon as a coin comes along that out bitcoins bitcoin then it will be a thing of the past.  If you know the time frame, then you are all set!

Time frame of what exactly? The time frame of that coin being in the market? Well, guess what. Almost all altcoins out there are better than bitcoins in some aspect because they do specialize in a certain aspect (e.g. faster transaction, lesser fees, more anonymous) but none of them comes near bitcoin right? Not even ETH. To be honest, altcoins are just out there so people can trade and take money from each other in a fair way. Those that knows trading better than the others get the most money. It's a zero-sum game. No matter how you look at it, it's going to be this way.

It makes total sense that bitcoin is going to stay as the best coin for the rest of time and the market share is just a proof of that. People might invest in this or that coin but at the end of the day it's all just so they can more bitcoins. Bitcoins are becoming more and more of a thing now and so people are investing more on ICOs hoping that they are going to make much more than they invested.

The price of a cryptocurrency how much of a hype it is receiving. The more people hype it up, the more people are going to buy it. The result will be more market share and a more expensive coin. Bitcoin being the most expensive coin just proves that the coin is receiving the most hype. There was a coin back then that's 5BTC each, not it's just 0.2BTC and it never even went to ICO price once it got to the exchanger. Why? Because it didn't receive any hype at all. Now it's dead.

I do not think another crypto is about overtaking bitcoin. Bitcoin has a massive demand and as difficulty in mining is increasing, the demand rises because many are starting to adopt it. So Bitcoin leads far into the future.

I'm not saying it isn't necessarily leading into the future.  It has a huge head start, and clearly from this forum a very enthusiastic following.  But if something comes along that nobody can even conceive of yet,  it is not impossible to overtake bitcoin.  I agree that if it does happen, it will be years down the road.  I just like to be cautiously (rather than blindly) optimistic.

My suppose is that Bitcoin as we see it today is like a prototype which is going to be modified with years and take some other form or even meaning. I like to be one of those pioneers who use the first version of Bitcoin, but it is surly not so perfect to stay without change for long.

Any thing in life that stays pertinent for many years has to be constantly adapting and changing to fit the current demands and needs of the market and bitcoin will be no different, the fact that the community can really drive bitcoins direction is fantastic because it removes the risk of many projects where a stubborn developer cannot accept change.

bitcoin taught all the world that nothing is impossible. just think about 10 years ago. if someone would have told you that there will be crypto currency and one coin will cost 7K usd, what would you say? so as nothing is impossible, it implies that bitcoin may not be number one all the time. we'll see how it goes.

The rising in value of the Bitcoins has been speculated and  projected, even to hit a mark of 10',000$. And also, some believe it will devalue greatly. The other coin that will take over is definitely worked on and I do disagree that ethereum will outrank the bitcoins, maybe some other time. As much as there are lots of ICOs, I believe they are also making the market stronger and weakening the altcions. Thereby making the value of Bitcoin to increase and  leaving the other altcoins to struggle behind.
