I think that bitcoin is just one of the crypto currency, it can not always be number one. Over time, the leading position will move from one to another
i believe it will stay at number one because people will never ever go for any other crypto and the reason is bitcoin has built trust in people minds and the profit value bitcoin returns no other coin can give.

It will be number one because bitcoin reach a $20,000 mark in the cryptocurrency industry but know its value begun to decrease but I hope it increase again someday.

I don't think bitcoin will be defeated or overcome by any other digital tokens that are available in the market. Bitcoin has got a better usability rather than the other assets that are given preference only for trading. Hope by the years to come things will change with the bitcoin and other altcoins, but bitcoin will stand high as the leader.

I do not know if ethereum will overtake Bitcoin or not. But by 2018 I think btc is still the strongest coin. Btc is still a major coin in the altcoin system and is well known, just as btc in the future retains its inherent characteristics and is finer in terms of fees. I believe it still leads in the top strongest coins.

I thought for sure it would take until the end of 2018 but it looks like this summer ethereum might pass it up. With the turmoil around BTC potential splitting, it might be very soon. IMO this is healthy, we will always value bitcoin for being the one that started it all, but it's time for a more dynamic and adaptable currency to take the lead.

Other cryptocurrencies will surely grow but no one could ever match bitcoin in my opinion. Bitcoin already created its own legacy in this market and I don't think it will leave the top place any sooner. This is because people still associate the words bitcoin to almost all digital finance. This connotation had played as advantage for bitcoin since its expansion.

It's true but still bitcoin is the highest value . Etherum is growing up but I don't think it will overtake bitcoin.  It's also true anything can happen in crypto world.

This thread was created last year, believing ethereum could've surpassed bitcoin. I don't think it is really easy to replace bitcoin as it is already rooted in most peoples minds. You wonder when bitcoin dropped hard, altcoins also dropped hard. And when bitcoin rises fast, altcoins also drop in prices. A stable bitcoin is what make altcoins healthy.

Bitcoin lost a pretty large amount of dominance last year for sure. It's pretty hard to predict if it will lose it's dominance as Bitcoins and other coins technologies improve. It's still easily the most recognisable coin to the public.

Well it is really hard to say if any of the coin can surpass bitcoin. Maybe few more decades it can happen but if we say a year or more then it cant be realistic. The hardest thing that other coins cannot compare to is how btc manage to stand still in market in a long period of time.

I know Ethereum has a big potential as an alt coin, some says it's more adaptable and dynamic than Bitcoin, its price is also on a good trend. But with all that being said, I still don't think it will replace Bitcoin as the number one crypto any time soon. It is very possible I am not saying that it is not, but not anytime soon. It needs to prove itself over time first.

Bitcoin will be a main player for the foreseeable future in my opinion. Whether it stays number one or not is largely irrelevant as long as the market moves up as a whole. I think it still remains one of the most consistent coins to hold, simply because of the recognition. I can't see it getting overtaken in the next 12 months, beyond that absolutely, but (I hope) it will still retain it's value. Looking at potential number ones, then can't really see past ETH at the mo, especially with all the ICOs using it's platform.

Everything changes, possibly bitcoy over time and will go to second place, but as long as he is a leader and everyone equals him. Its fall is reflected in other crypto-currencies even more than on its own. And the effect is stronger.

Bitcoin will lead the charts of cryptocurrencies for some years. But the day will come when bitcoin will not be number one anymore. Its just a question of time. Because bitcoin is technically totally old, and when the community is not ready to update the blockchain technology, it can not keep up with newer cryptocurrencies. So maybe they will update the coin so hard it can handle more transaction in less time, which will be needed to handle the payments worldwide.

My suppose is that Bitcoin as we see it today is like a prototype which is going to be modified with years and take some other form or even meaning. I like to be one of those pioneers who use the first version of Bitcoin, but it is surly not so perfect to stay without change for long.
In this regard, we can say that bitcoin was given another chance to remain a long-livers among the crypto currency and remain its leader. On February 26, a new version of Bitcoin 0.16.0 was released, which differs in that it fully supports SegWit, which compresses the transaction volume. This means that the scalability of bitcoin has been solved, and with this, its other drawbacks. It can be said that bitcoin will remain the leader number one among the crypto currency.

What you're talking about old is bitcoin, the reason why it is old because it is the foundation of cryptocurrencies, it is the first ever crypto that is why it has always been on top of all other cryptocurrencies. If they will enhance the technology of bitcoin like everything that is emerging from the market now a days I guess it will be forever on top but if not I guess it might be surpassed by newer technologies.
