What they have been saying so far passes the sniff test.

Their plan of using existing proven technology and provide a value add (by assembly and hosting) seems like a pretty bread and butter business plan.  So far they haven't said anything that seems crazy (like they are about to release their own asic).

We will see if the wheels fall off once the chips ship, or if they are everything they are purporting to be.

I am guardedly optimistic as well.

^ what he says. Too bad there's no project like this springing up in Europe. burnin's boards are one possibility, but they're a bit pricey.

Yeah, higher price and quite low density. Currently I have a problem with space and electricity for my units.

@Terrahash:
Could you please provide at least your company entity number - I was unable to find the company record for TerraHash Inc. at http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/

Thanks.

Which makes terrahash so appealing... Just hope they aren't too good to be true... They are cutting a fine line.

Really looking forward to bitsyncom pushing out all their various batches (Avalon's and chips).

I don't think folks are worried you are a scam...

I think the question we are asking among ourselves is if you will be able to be profitable enough to be stable.  Your  margins look very thin (which is appealing as a short term customer, but less so for long term), but obviously you know your numbers better than us arm chair speculators (burn rate for rent, taxes, licenses, salaries, electricity, insurance, interest on any borrowed capital, blah blah, death by a thousand small cuts, etc....).

Looking forward to seeing the DX designs.  Hopefully some neighborly Bitcoin talk folk in California will welcome you to your new location.

I imagine the technical work will progress more quickly with the finalization of the k16 and k64 boards and the shipping of the test chips/chip batches. I think your products and services will be popular.  Do you think you will have enough asics (the limiting factor I would imagine) to meet demand?

Good luck... I'm hoping for your success!

Just a curiosity on my part...

10,000 chips from Avalon = BTC782.1 (including shipping) = BTC0.07821 per chip (with no markup at all)

64 chips * BTC0.07821 = BTC5.00544 worth of chips in one 64 chip complete assembly which TerraHash is charging BTC6.99 for

TerraHash also has the option of charging BTC1.99 for the same board, assembly only, if I send them my own chips

If assembly price can be assumed to be the same for the boards, then buying a fully assembled board with chips included means I'm getting 64 chips at BTC6.99 - BTC1.99 = BTC5.00

Seems like it's a better deal to get chips from TH on a fully assembled board than it is to buy chips from a group buy... especially since most of the group buys added a 10% premium...

So am I really going to pay more for assembly only when I could buy fully assembled chipped boards with less hassle at a lower total cost?

TH in all fairness I think your prices are great but I am just not sure how you can be turning a profit at these numbers, you seem to be losing btc on the chips alone and I know there is a fair amount of component cost in the assembly, of which your price is about 1/2 what anyone else is quoting at this point in time...

Group thoughts?

I have no idea what they are actually doing but it seems that if they source the chips, then it's less hassle for them, and the savings are taken from the cost of the board.  Looks to me that BTC1.98456 would still allow them to make a profit, especially if they don't have to fool around with receiving your chips and verifying its you and all that garbage.

Perhaps it costs less per chip to buy 20,000 chips over 10,000. Economies of scale?

Make my day! Say thanks if you found me helpful Smiley BTC Address --->

It looked like it was 780BTC per order of 10,000 from the avalon web store... regardless of how many orders of 10,000 you ordered.

Like we said earlier... what they saying isn't impossible... just seems extremely aggressive since we know that the chips are a fixed cost, and it starts to border on too good to be true when you factor in all the other costs that we can only imagine.

The test will be when they actually have a working board and all the costs to produce it in scale (ie. a known working board with a known number of parts to be picked and placed and baked and tested... server room space... electricity).

Makes one raise one's eyebrows at the least, but as Terrahash has noted... they haven't asked for anything and seem very sincere.

Indeed this is a slight red flag, but to their credit, they have not asked for funds yet. Will be looking at this project with great interest, and will throw fist-fulls of cash at them if something materializes.

@Terrahash:
- Could you please post a snippet of your Bitsyncom order stating:
   - The two order numbers, the order status & order date
- Could you please sign a short message with the Bitcoin address you used to
pay the two Avalon ASIC batches and state the unique payment address you used.
And post the info in this thread (bitcoin address, message, signature)
   - Some group sellers have done that in the past already, see:
      https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=192916.40  - post #57
- Could you please post some proof of your company registration (Terrahash Inc.) e.g.
an official registration no. and / or link to some official commercial register.
This would be what it takes for me to order at least one K64 unit.

You will need an external power source, a usb cable for connection to host and a proper cooling solution.

Do you mean heatsinking, or general ventilation/case fans?

I hope these boards come with heatsinks etc. Assembling power . . . ATX is easy, ventilation . . . easy, the heatsinks will need to be custom made I think. I will definately be ordering a few 18ghs if heatsinks are included.

I'm still feeling somewhat uneasy about Terrahash.

We have several pages of talking from them what they might have done in the past, might be doing currently, might be doing in the future (e.g. selling boards with the chips they ordered) and that they are "in talks with BKK".
- So they might be real.

The facts so far:
- They have a very generic looking website (terrahash.com)
- They hide website registering details behind a Privacy registrar; why
would an officially registered company do that:
Registrant:
TerrHash, Inc. c/o Dynadot Privacy
PO Box 701
San Mateo, CA 94401
United States
- They state they are a "Silicon valley based company" but have not provided any official company
registration information.
- They state to have ordered two #10k batches of Avalon ASIC chips.

I would like to trust them and order from them as soon as they open their order pages,
but I think we need a bit more proof:

@Terrahash:
- Could you please post a snippet of your Bitsyncom order stating:
   - The two order numbers, the order status & order date
- Could you please sign a short message with the Bitcoin address you used to
pay the two Avalon ASIC batches and state the unique payment address you used.

      https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=192916.40  - post #57
- Could you please post some proof of your company registration (Terrahash Inc.) e.g.
an official registration no. and / or link to some official commercial register.
- All this should not take much of your time.

I think the answer to these questions could provide more trust to your company and for all
the forum members still thinking about buying from you.

Thanks for all your efforts and commitment.
