They must suck.  If they really were good they would have leaked by now.

Why should I wait for a good driver? They had the whole summer to get their drivers straight for this release and still I'm sure it will happen again. They will rush a piece of silicon to the market with half-baked software and then gradually improve it over time to keep us occupied.

It could be an interesting business strategy to keep customers locked-in into the product. Imagine you've paid half a grand for for a decent GPU and people keep telling you it can do much better and you can get this improvement for free with a simple driver upgrade if you wait and don't go to competition just yet. No one knows what the full potential of the product actually is but everyone invested hope for the best even if the competition is showing better results.

I understand it is very difficult to get a high quality software release on day one, but this is not the first GPU they ever produced.

We should have a class action law suit going and demand to cover our losses in unrealized mining potential (3.50 ETH) and another 3.50 for the pain and suffering. Per each GPU Smiley

Could have been from the Frontier Edition, which IS a "Vega 64" based card.

look at market cap

Market cap has ZERO direct effect on mining profitability.

PRICE does, but price is only one of the components of market cap.

Keep in mind that the coin with the SECOND highest number of GPUs pointed at it is probably ZEC (at ballpark 1/2 to 1/3d as many cards as ETH has) yet it's only #17 on your market cap list.

How long a coin has been around has a major effect on market cap, as a coin that has been around a long time like ETH will have a lot more coins in existance vs one that is less than a year old like ZEC.

I don't see ANY chance of a lawsuit over "lost mining potential" due to poor drivers getting traction against AMD or NVidia - they do NOT make their cards for mining, they make NO guarentee of their cards for mining, etc - the only possible tort would be for "breach of contract" and there IS NO SUCH CONTRACT for them to breach.

Might have a faint prayer vs the AFTERMARKET makers that are making "mining cards" but I doubt even THAT would get anywhere in a court.

...I doubt even THAT would get anywhere in a court.

I was just joking about class action in absence of any Vega numbers to discuss atm. Even put a smiley at the end Smiley

Seriously though, I think that nVidia has somewhat higher quality bar for their driver releases bundled with the new product rollout compared to AMD.

My point was to say that drivers can potentially be used as a tool for market manipulation and I think they knowingly (or unknowingly) doing it to some degree.

Nothing would prevent AMD (or NV) to artificially limit mining potential of a new product to protect their main (gaming) market from exhaustion. Then slowly improve it over time to keep the market demand up. It's unfair business practice, but I have no supporting data to show. Just my gut feeling.

Volta isn't out yet. Vega is already on sale and (according to some vids on youtube) delivers 25 MH/s on ETH, so until some good BIOS or driver update comes out 1080ti will be the number one when it comes to maximum hashrate.

my guess is the card is not that good so amd is trying hard to keep the info quiet.
