If I planned on buying some coins today. Which would be the better long term investment, and why?

I think you should change your direction into Etherum , it's better than Bitcoin for now for newcomers. Bitcoin's price is too much for now, the profit will not high as etherum is.

I think bitcoin is the most profitable for now and any one who wants to invest in crypto currencies can invest in bitcoin as it will surely give you good amount of profits.

Altcoins are also a good investment but they are just a developing project and no on can say which will rise or fall any time but on the other side bitcoins are a very stable currency and also the most valued once. We look at its value graph than you will see that it is ever on increasing.  My advice is investing in bitcoin of you need great profit and can wait for some time after investment.

I think it depends on what you have at the back of your mind  to achieve with cryptocurrencies factoring in the volality nature of the coins generally including bitcoins.

For me, I want to maintain presence with a few bitcoins in my wallet while also trading in some altcoins that I feel have the prospect of doing well either short term or long term.

Everbody should support bitcoin because it's the most important actor of the crypto world. Without bitcoin, the rest can't survive and they will collapse. However we should beware of some good altcoin presence in the market as well.

It isn't about the price, you should compare marketcaps, however, ethereum is far from reaching bitcoin marketcap, bitcoin isn't reachable now, it is flying alone.

I think for now better investment in altcoin because bitcoin is rising very high almost 4-fold and almost all altcoin prices go down and this is the right time to buy it. and just keep him and stay waiting for the price rise

Investing in either bitcoin or any of the altcoin is no doubt really a very good choice the thing it is you who has to make the decision according to your own personal skillset and the way you are planning the things. Find a dozen or so coins with bitcoin being about 15% to 50% of your portfolio.  I find altcoins the better investment if you know your coin... you should be able to get to know about a dozen coins real well and follow the community.

Choosing Bitcoin for long-term investment is right in my opinion. But altcoin can be preferred for a short time. But both of  prefer for me because I study about all  coin .

If we talk about best coins among altcoins, they are seriously eth, waves, neo and litecoin. Bitcoin is the one which is best among all currencies. Altcoins are too dependent on bitcoin for the increase and decrease in the value of these coins.

If you have some good patience and some good amount of money in your pocket right now, invest into bitcoin for large profits otherwise buy some altcoins if you want little profit.
