I think that altcoins usually reflect the price of Bitcoin. When Bitcoin is down then typically the altcoins are down. When Bitcoin is up then typically the altcoins are up. If Bitcoin collapses then all the altcoins will probably collapse as well. The only circumstance where I don't see this happening is if another cryptocurrency rises to the top and Bitcoin falls apart. That new cryptocurrency would act as the new benchmark for all the other cryptocurrencies. In this case, altcoins may be affected in the short term, but would continue on their way as if nothing happened.

This is perhaps the most interesting theory. We have all seen the graphs - when BTC falls, alts fall with it, often magnified many times in regard to price and market cap because of the relative lack of confidence in altcoins. What is even more interesting to look at is what coins do not follow BTC when it falls.

Example: Two days ago, I was watching BTC fall between 3-6% and all the altcoins 24hour%change go with it. I was scrolling down coin market cap and saw something interesting - ARK was posting a -2% 24 hour change, but the graph was steady, even increasing a little bit. All the rest of the altcoin graphs had the same dip BTC had, except ARK. The question of "why?" then has a couple possible answers:

1. The ARK community is following a signal that overcomes the overall depression of the market caused by falling BTC price;
2. Exchanges are manipulating the price;
3. Some other party is manipulating the price, or buying significant amounts because they know something the rest of the market does not, and/or;
4. ARK does not follow the musings of BTC price.

Out of all four of these theories, #4 is the least likely to be true. Therefore, the price is going up for a reason, and is very possible depressed artificially because of people who are selling and DON'T follow signals others are following. If this behavior persists beyond the BTC depression on the market, what is the actual rate of increase we should expect from ARK in a positive market? Well, we have that answer.

During September 9th, Bitcoin fell considerably. ARK, however, posted a ~3% increase after all was said and done. BTC dropped 7%. But when the day of the 10th begins is where it gets interesting - BTC was fluctuating between a low of $4120 USD and a high of $4364. Up until this point in time, BTC has been bouncing around this range (@ 4219 as I look at it). As soon as BTC had an upturn, ARK started a steady climb. From the 10th till now, ARK has had an ~24% price increase.

BTC posts -7%, ARK does +3%.
BTC posts +2% gain, ARK does +24%.

This is what I find to be most fun about Crypto - finding the weird signals that go against the goliath which is BTC. Why? Who the fuck knows.

In the past, i do believe that bitcoin die will lead to all altcoin dead as there is nothing to sustain the alt coin except the interest in bitcoin.

However years later, altcoin is now a different field. Alt coin dont really have to be depend on bitcoin anymore. For example, a lot of fiat to crypto exchanges now also support buying of ethereum. So you no longer have to depend 100% to buy on bitcoin before you can exchange to other crypto paired with bitcoin. On the other hand, a lot of alt coins now are solving real world problems. Like Tenx which make crypto debt credit, making it extremely easy to spend crypto in any real world places.

I think that if for some reason bitcoin disappeared then many altcoins are going to disappear as well, I do not think that all of them but probably most of the shit coins will die and there is a chance that even some promising projects that are just starting out will not be able to handle the instability of the market, but I think coins like ETH, LTC and others will probably survive and will fight to get the most investors after that happens.

I do not think so, bitcoin users will divert to a better altcoin. we all know that many of the weaknesses of bitcoin are found after 9 years, other issues such as segwit are also things that make users confused.

Yeah The bitcoin is now popular but I don't think that the bitcoin will die. The bitcoin is very strong nowadays and I can say that the bitcoin will not die and it will exist in this world forever.

You don't make any sense. If Bitcoin is here for 9 years, and weaknesses have been found, this makes it one of the strongest systems, since it has not only been tested over time but has received several improvements.

Also, segwit makes it better. But if you're confused with it you're not forced to use it.

Altcoins would not really die, but it would lose some of its power and it may be not good enough to invest in different altcoins because I think altcoins depend on the value of bitcoin. Without bitcoin how would you convert and get your salary in the form of altcoins? You need an exchanger in order to officially accept your salary and then you can do anything you want with it.

You are 100% right about the second part. Most of the altcoins can be purchased only with BTC. They can't be purchased with fiat currency (in most cases). And yes... IMO, the altcoin bubble is just about to burst. There are so many altcoins with a market cap of more than 1 billion USD, and this is simply not sustainable in the long term.

I think it's possible, although there are a lot of good alternatives in the market, but bitcoin is the first one and almost all altcoins depend on Bitcoin for it's value, the majority of altcoins will be useless once Bitcoin dies.
not true at all, a lot of these altcoins are intended as projects in the case that bitcoin does fail; a lot of these altcoin shills are people that believe wholeheartedly that bitcoin will fail, and whatever alt they push long term will be the 'one altcoin to rule them all' or something. granted, a lot of these will die out and be worth nothing in the foreseeable future, a few of these (namely litecoin, ethereum, dash) i can believe will exist entirely separately after bitcoin dies out, if it does. but yes, the majority of pump and dump shitcoins will be worthless, but it's not as if they arent already worthless anyways.

Altcoins would not really die, but it would lose some of its power and it may be not good enough to invest in different altcoins because I think altcoins depend on the value of bitcoin. they can always be purchased with other altcoins, just depends if that form of payment is accepted or not.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

Bitcoin and altcoin are not connected by its system so if bitcoin will die then altcoins will not die because they have their own system and blockchain so it is not a problem for them to worry for the life of bitcoin because the only thing that matter to them is, bitcoin is the one which is used to buy mostly of the altcoins.

It would depend on the reason why bitcoin would be worthless. We know that altcoins are created basing on the technology use in bitcoin and if the reason would be that something gone wrong in that technology then there would be a possibility that altcoins would be worthless too. If the reason why bitcoin would become worthless is because another currency has been more useful compared to bitcoin and more people shifted their funds to it then bitcoin would be worthless and the altcoin would remain.

If the time comes when the government or countries banned bitcoin then altcoins would be banned as well because they just belong to the same category and would become wortless. What we can observe now is that when bitcoin goes down in value, almost all altcoins follow suit so there would be a big possibility that when bitcoin lose value, the altcoins would lose value as well.

But if the reasonof bitcoin's death is for example, cryptocurrency is being banned worldwide, or say most of the countries, then altcoins will also follow. So the answer for the topic will depend on the reason why bitcoin died.

I don't know how bitcoin is relates to altcoin in terms of their existence. Indeed, they are related with each other in terms of demands and the increase of their market value. But in my opinion, if Bitcoin will die, it will be in favor for altcoins, because their competition is will be gone and the demand that Bitcoin gets will definitely go to altcoin, so I can't see that altcoin will die if bitcoin is dead.

Not necessarily but there is for sure a very adverse effect on them since bitcoin is the one really representing the entire crypto world. If anything really bad happening to bitcoin, the rest will for sure be dipping in their own respective values.

I don't think so, even Bitcoin die for some reason, altcoin may probably continue evolving, since every crypto currencies are having there own special purpose.
And then, maybe one of the altcoins will be made king, because investors still need criptocurrenccy as an investment asset.

I don't think like you. There are still many altcoins raise powerfully like Bitcoin. Bitcoin is just a cryptocurrency and there are many cryptocurrency exists in parallel, strong likes Bitcoin. Therefore, If Bitcoin dies, it will lead to others altcoins replace Bitcoin.
