As you want to hold for five to ten years, I think you should go for stable and safe altcoins. There are a lot of altcoins which wouldn't survive that long. Coins like Litecoin, Ethereum, bitcoin, and Neo. I believe Investment in these coins will be quite safe.

The top 10 coins on coinmarketcap is surely a good long term investment because I think they will not easily go down to be a shitcoin as they have a big market cap and have lot of connection with the crypto industry so for sure after holding these coins will give you a good fortune in the future.

I would suggest a top crypto currency; bitcoin, etherium and maybe NEO.
Other altcoins are good for quick profit, but are very volatile.

All people tend to speculate on short-term moves but I am more interested in tokens that will go up x times over the next couple of years...

I mean Bitcoin started the whole thing but technically there are so much better, safer, faster, more anonymous coins that should take over in the long run.

Still the best coin to invest for long term goal is BTC and ETH. BTC being the mother of all crypto and ETH being use as platform by almost all ICOs that coming in the market. You can also try FULOOS COIN soon to have a Merchant Platform wherein you can use it in paying bills.

I think if you want to invest in long term, I suggest to invest in top 100 coin in CMC. It's more safer than invest in another alt which unstable and risk to be collapse. But if you wanna try coin which have small marketcap, it's okay but you must wisely choose the right coin.

Diversify your investment portfolio into several altcoin groups. Invest a part of your capital into strong cryptocurrencies from top 20 that have already gained trust (eth, dash, litecoin, neo etc). This is good advice, but I will add that for long-term holding diversifying is very important. But not only different ERC-20 coins. For example Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and NEO are all good for long term.
