@blissz: could we modify voltage with software? I connected to D3 with SSH, and I can change some settings in cgminer and cgminer.conf, but I don't know what is the best voltage value.

changing the hashing  algo strongly needed for this device.
x11(coins)  is insufficient as of today

I expect it's possible but didn't find the right knobs yet to do so. It would be way more convenient compared to the hard mod...

after under volting to 7.1v is it ok to set a higher clock value other than 430mhz. if so, which value would be most optimal for this under volted "7.1v" miner ?

Antminer S series had voltage/freq/timing table. If so have same table, it would be easy to set better  efficiency.

do you have another picture of the soldering of potentiometer on the r80 slot?

Thanks

Hi, i'm also an owner of some Antminer D3 devices.

My skills are software engineering, but my world is microsoft based and not linux. But i have installed cygwin and unpacked the new firmware (initramfs.bin.SD) to a folder to inspect all files. My idea is to get sgminer (from new Baikal X10) up and running. That would be very cool, but i don't know where to start.

What i can see is, that Antminer runs cgminer 4.9.0 and Baikal runs sgminer...

Is this possible? Anybody else an idea?

Here is the unpacked Folder from last firmware update.

This is annoying me as well. There is check in cgminer for > 5000rpm when starting up. I might build a simple 555 circuit to fake the RPM, because this fan startup noise is really annoying

I guess that;s quite a challenge. The interface to the d3 board is a serial connection. Not sure about the baikal. If we could get the source for the d3 cgminer that would really open up possibilies... So if one with access to this reads this.... Wink

@blissz
can you have a better indication (drawing or other pics) for where to fix 25k ohm potentiometer and what you mean for replace R80 ?

You need to remove the R80 resistor first and put  the potentiometer wired to the 2 "solder islands" of where the R80 was fixed.

This is good stuff. Thanks for this. I checked the source and it's legit. I took  a quick look at the code and I do see lots of possibilities:

1) adjust ASIC voltage from software 99% YES
2) fix the fan startup speed / fan speed limits YES
3) change the algorithm MAYBE YES. I found something really interesting in the initialization of the ASICS. It seems like there is something build in to the asics to support multiple algorithms, which can be unlocked by the firmware.

As I only own one D3 miner and need to spend lot's of time on implementing it I consider a few things:

- don't bother modding the d3 even further.
- supply a miner binary with the mods and add a fee percentage
- make the mods, show it in a video / or whatever and ask for a donation before releasing it to the public.

@blissz: pm. me! I've some ideas modding D3, and I have questions.

honestly, if someone can write a customized miner for the d3 to mine different algo's, i'm sure the community would have no issues paying a mining fee.

good luck on the research guys.

I managed to implement the hardware undervolting Mod and I must say it works like magic. Currently doing 6.9V @ 437MHZ giving me about 15.3GH with no HW errors  Grin
I think if D3 is unlocked to other algos, this would be like having an early xmas coz bitmain fooled so many pple by over selling these machines and they are doing the same thing now to L3+
So if for example i can use my D3 on Scrypt. It would mean a vast number of pple will not order from bitmain but simply change algo of the D3 they already own which would put bitmain in check atleast for a short while.

I wouldnt mind paying for these software mods just to stick it up to bitmain
