Hi Blissz,

With your modified firmware,  I noticed my primary pools stops every 4 hours.  Below is hastrate from my backup pool,  it shows when and how much hashrate were leaked.   Is this something related to your firmware?

Flashed new firmware this morning.

Machine 1 running 2 boards went from 10.7 to 11.3. Watts didn't change.

Machinen 2 running all three boards went from 16 to 16.8. Havent tested the watts yet.

I contacted the pool admin, he says it not his pool issue.  The kernel logs shows network or pool not responding.   Below is the kernel log.

From the log, it looks like you set the internet available  watchdog timer to 120 seconds.  However the internet recovers after 135 seconds.  I would suggest you extend the timer to 180 seconds or so.

From what i know, you need a big tank that fits all of the boards from your miner, a top tank that install the Cooling Coil to do two-phase operation, and of course the 1 gallon fluid that cost $300.

Off topic, but only slightly considering Blissz originally set out to make a silent machine...

That is the fancy 3M Engineered Fluids method... the hippy non-toxic way is to just use mineral-oil or some other suitable dielectic blend.  About 90$ for 5gallons.  Less in quantity.

The tricky bits are circulation and heat exchanging... but not problems that haven't been solved a million different ways before.  I'm leaning towards trying a recirculating pump and a automotive transmission oil cooler+fan outside for my baby farm (two D3s)!   If I lived in a colder climate I would consider a classic household radiator and dump the heat inside seasonally.  If that can't move enough heat I'll have to try to build a evaporative cooler and heat exchange with water.

That is alot of Novec fluid, maybe 2-3 gallons! (the cost of a D3).  Fans and heatsinks aren't necessary in a Novec closed loop system, i've seen better where the hash boards just lie flat on an aquarium bottom and maybe only 1/2 gal of fluid is needed.  In closed loop you still have to cool the condensing surface somehow.   Probably less efficient but a peltier cooler strapped to a large heatsink or plate might be less messy.  Not for dash, those things are energy hogs, perhaps workable on another coin, or if the one cooler rig is all you need for lots of hashing boards.

My exchanger/condenser thoughts lean towards a wort-chiller rig or plate heat exchanger with a DIY cooling tower outside to cycle the water.  But my first attempt will be to just pump and exhaust the oil heat directly.  Pumping water is better, as you are't restricted to the types of pumps that will do the job and not break down, but I think the small food-grade pumps can handle oil and are pretty cheap.  If you are after parts for your rig the automotive and home-brew industry seems to be a good resource.

It ran the entire time without an error. Just hit the refresh button and 60+ in last few minutes and board that one board stopped


Ok so I don't know if its juat another day or the new firmware.

I put the bad board back in after the new update. I now have Machine 1 up and running for about 20 minutes and no HW on the "bad" board.


I'm running at 15.3

The bad board is clocked down to 350 and I have to use 10v. But at least its providng 4000+.


Not sure I feel safe leaving it unattended. Not because it will burn out but when the board fails it still sends power to the board and its just a waste.


Blissz can you shed some light? these boards do seem to be tempermental day to day.

I do think you're unlucky with that board and have to RMA it. If it doesn't run stable at 350 Mhz it's just broken...

How did you do with the wires of new fans? I saw pictures of it and it has 3 wires vs 4 of the original fan, I am really interested in changing those crappy fans.

Thank you for the fan fix blissz, couldn't replicate the problem, but had a feeling it had to do with when there's a network interruption, much relieved it's fixed.  Had chips go to 114 degrees on one machine before I noticed and quickly intervened.  Error rate was higher than normal after that on that machine even after restarting, but after a short cooldown period they are working perfectly again, guess I dodged a bullet.

Also received my end Nov batch d3 and the fans on this model is of a poorer quality, different model, lower amp and much louder than the fans on other batches, a shame since my other d3's were all much quieter with the custom firmware and now the new machine just tops out the overall noise level again.

Good to hear your d3 is fine!  

You can replace the fans with some other models. I actually run mine now with two Scythe Slip Stream Slim 2000rpm, 120mm. This is of course not the solution if you want to run at high hashrates, but for the lowest voltage setting and 15 to 16 Mh/s this is a real nice and quiet fan.
I also modded the PSU: I added a small fan controller to have it run at half the RPM. Now this combination is actually really silent. I can have it run it in my living room if I want to.
