$3 per rig for this software is not expensive, that's insane.  & Windows is a pita with a lot of rigs.

Yepp. It is much more convinient to steal then to earn something, didn't it?
Just remember what you are really doing and thus compare $100 windows license with $3 Hive, not a stolen Windows for free with a product that no one force you to use.

That $3 is a reoccurring charge every month per rig.

Windows 10 is a flat one time charge and it is most certainly not $100. A digital license costs less than $2 now.

Unless people can't read that's already common knowledge and the price for what you get is worth it. Complaining of the charge is ungrateful nitpicking. This software is amazing and you couldn't pay me to go back to windows.

0.5-40 2018-04-04
- NEW: sgminer-x16r 0.4.0 (supports x16s also), replaced aceneun fork with brian112358 fork
- Claymore 11.6
- xmrig 2.5.2
- xmrstack 2.4.0
- ccminer suprminer 1.5, tprvot 2.2.5, run ccminer-update to get newer version
- Improved stats availability on rigs with high system load, recent ccminer could cause that with 8+ GPUs
- Intel E1000E network driver update script. Run /hive/opt/e1000e/e1000e-upgrade.sh to update your current driver. Possibly can fix issues with hanging subnetworks.

I am not complaining about the price of HiveOS. It is a very good deal.

The data you presented ($100 windows license when it only costs $2-$3) and the $3 HiveOS license (without stating that is reoccurring) was stated to obscure.

XMR-Stak is currently V2.3. Is the xmrstack 2.4.0 a different miner or just a typo?

Well you really have to drill down all the way to the download section to see the current version number.

The main page still boldly shows V2.3 and the change log doesn't even show what versions there are/were.

Yeah, fair enough. No need to justify missing it.

It is a small update which is why I am guessing.

Hard to tell if it is a small or large change since there is no info in the change log stating what has changed from 2.4.0 to 2.4.1

EDIT: HiveOS is currently running the buggy version 2.4.0 that was pulled. 2.4.1 needs to be added to HiveOS.

xmr-stak 2.4.1 The Day After Easter

We are delighted to announce the xmr-stak release 2.4.1 (note 2.4.0 got killed due to bugs). We fixed a few bugs from the release 2.3.0

Windows 10 is a flat one time charge and it is most certainly not $100. A digital license costs less than $2 now.

Do not mix "activation code" and proper windows license. digital or not. I can produce activation codes in volumes but it do not give you any legal rights to use windows.

I doubt the Windows Police will be knocking on my door.

Heck you can even load Windows 10 on a system and never activate it and still use the system. I have done this (installed Windows 10 Pro on a SSD not activated) so that I can test processors and video cards inside systems I buy so that those parts can be more easily resold. When I get the same system again all I have to do is put in the SSD, boot and test.

Without activation some features are disabled and of course the "please activate" message appears.

Upgrade does not happen automatically. You will need to go to the.hiveos.farm then click on rigs then update each rig that is on the older version.

X16r NOT stable on Hive OS as reported by multiple users. I can run upto 8 gpus stably that too at very low hash rate. More then 12 gpus ccminer mines for sometime and then crashes says "waiting for cooldown".
