Twitter handle updated
FLO twitter is now @FLOblockchain (https://twitter.com/FLOblockchain) instead of @Official_Florin (there is no "Official" anything for a decentralized project anyway!)

Telegram link updated
FLO telegram URL is now https://t.me/FLOblockchain

Alexandria FAQ via https://chat.alexandria.io
Tort: Hey everybody, Florincoin holder here. What is the alexandria.io strategy for eluding copyright claims and censorship shills?
devon: hey tort - welcome & stoked to talk with you about our project - headed into a meeting atm, will circle back this evening
Tort: Looking forward to it
devon:
in short, the raw data stored in Florincoin is one thing, the database that populates the interface that lives at the Application layer is another thing, and any kind of subjective filters can be applied in between them. so Alexandria will have its own SOPs about what to filter out, and any other application built on Open Index Protocol will have their own. the protocol itself does require that applications honor filter lists for two sets of content: piracy and "universally abhorrent content" (child porn)
your phrasing "for eluding... censorship shills" suggests that you're very much aware of the fact that a lot of original content is being taken down from sites like youtube by abusing the copyright claims process. our solution to that is that we dont assume all claims are valid unless disputed, we assume they arent until confirmation/proof is given, which flips the incentive structure involved in the claims process. and tbh, our larger solution is provided by the overall transparency of our chosen structure; anything that has been "taken down" through a copyright claim is still findable in the blockchain itself, which means no one can truly hide/censor significant info by abusing copyright claims
Tort:
Devon, thanks for that awesome and thorough answer. Yes I think you nailed it, authentic, honest, and original content is being sought and destroyed by the FANG types. So you're saying that once something is uploaded into Alexandria, nothing can delete it?
What is your model for winning over artists and other sponsors so they promote media through the alexandria.io service?
Thanks for answering my questions.
devon:
1) no one can censor them
2) they get to set their own prices
3) they can financially incentivize promoters to share links to their content
4) they can capture revenue within social media directly by getting their audience to install our browser extension, which can be seen previewed here: https://alexandria.io/browser/b6a8fa

I'll just repost the message...

Do you happen to know if this exists in Bitcoin/Litecoin  0.15? We're in the midst of a leap from 0.10.4 to 0.15 and if it's not addressed I'll check it out while I'm diving in.

Greetings, friends at Florin!

As Komodo Platform has been working around the clock to fine-tune the multiple GUI's that are the face of our Agama multiwallet and BarterDEX atomic swap protocols, there have obviously been many bugs found and many debugged. However, one bug in particular was found not only in our Agama GUI wallet, but also in the zcash4mac GUI swing wallet. It is a simple bug, but it warrants your attention. This is a potential money cost bug, and as a Bitcoin-protocol cryptocurrency, your GUI wallet(s) may be susceptible. We are reaching out directly to the developers and communities of the 60+ coins featured on Agama and BarterDEX as the bug may have a direct impact on you (via your own wallet).

watchonly-GUI bug: 'watchonly' addresses appearing as your own in GUI wallet; users could potentially send funds to the address, unaware it is not theirs or available for withdrawal. You can import <any address> and it becomes a 'watchonly' address. The GUI will display the address as yours, add its funds to your balance, and accept deposits, but cannot be withdrawn. This could be a normal address, my address, a p2sh address, satoshi's address, etc. This can be confusing to an end-user and will lead to many headaches for the developer, as is always the case with misplaced funds.

FOUND: in Komodo Platform's Agama multiwallet (fixed) and zcash4mac GUI swing wallet (@jl777B: "newest QT wallet seems ok about watch only, but not sure of older and when it was fixed")

ex. @grewalsatinder found the bug in his zcash swing wallet: https://i.imgur.com/sVd0QTL.png

Quote from: jl777B
"satinder used zcash4mac, ie. the zcash osx GUI, not ours... the assumption is no GUI out there properly handles watch only addresses, until proven that they do... agama also had this bug, which we found and fixed, so it seems a very common bug to have"

SOLUTION: For the 'watchonly' address or any address not yours, the value 'ismine' returns false. Any such address gets filtered out.

QUESTIONS:
  • How does your recommended GUI deal with watchonly addresses?
  • Does your GUI display watchonly addresses as different than actual addresses in the wallet?

We need to experiment a bit to see which approach gets a better response triggering the bug. People WILL lose money if they send funds to a watchonly address.

Quote from: jl777B
"the t3 addresses in the 'Own Addresses' column! and they absolutely cant be as they are p2sh addresses. it is clear proof that the bug is very real and anybody that understands a p2sh address will understand it cant be something in your wallet. it is usually a multisig address, so only if it is a 1of1 multisig (possible but very silly) can you have a p2sh address that is spendable, but the wallet wont even know it... normal addresses can also be watchonly, which makes this even worse. in that case it would appear in the list of addresses just like all the others. even if you are able to spot p2sh addresses visually, it wont be enough"

We want to spread awareness and facilitate discussion of this bug to minimize the impact.

Of course - we can always talk about how you can use BarterDEX today to trade Florin via atomic swap directly with your peers, through our beta GUI and without downloading the entire blockchain ; ) That is how we found the bug, afterall.

Stay safe,
Jay

Alexandira Q&A via https://chat.alexandria.io
Joseph [Florin Developer] [7:57 PM]:
question from telegram: is there currently a video compression type that you can recommend for alexandria? h.24 mp4’s don’t seem to get along with the current incarnation too well

bitspill [Admin] [Alexandria Team] [8:25 PM]:
The bitrate is more of a concern than the container type
There is no transcoding or selectable quality settings yet so if a user has a slower internet playback will suffer

devon [Admin] [Alexandria Team] [9:02 PM]:
@joseph what ive found is that a lot of desktop apps, like iMovie for example, are outputting somewhat high bitrate versions of files for uploading, cuz they know that YouTube and Vimeo both re-encode everything uploaded to optimize playback. We have that in our roadmap using ffmpeg, but it hasn't been done yet. If people want to download HandBrake, which is basically just a GUI on top of ffmpeg, i can provide some compression templates that i've found work well.

Hello Florin community,

Florin is available for atomic swap trading on Komodo Platform's BarterDEX! Right now, P2P, on Mainnet. Anyone can test it out if you'd like. We are taking privacy to new heights by keeping your funds and privkeys in YOUR HANDS! zK-SNARK coin Jumblr in YOUR HANDS! Liquidity of each coin is still building, but BarterDEX can pair your coin with any other of the 60+ coins on the exchange. If a team member, perhaps someone from marketing, would like to test out an atomic swap through our GUI, please send me a DM : )

Welcome to the BarterDEX decentralized exchange!

Trade freely and safely,
Jay

Flotorizer Q&A - http://flotorizer.net
Fatih Kesova, [23.12.17 13:04]
I have a question. Will it be possible for us to acquire back the flotoerized file in the future when we need to? I mean is it possible to?
http://www.flotorizer.net/

Davi, [23.12.17 13:54]
[In reply to Fatih Kesova]
Hi @kfatihk, right now your file is not even uploaded to the server. We calculate the digital signature on your browser and only the hash is sent to us, keeping your file private.

We are planning on launching the feature to host files soon. But privacy of the user is the most important issue to us, so we are working on a scheme that will encrypt everything before sending to our servers so the only person that can even read what the file says is the user with the right password and username.

Yeah, I really like both ideas- Flo and Alexandria. Few months ago i thought this is very promising project but the attitude of devs and people is so weird.
Whilst there has been some progress (e.g. rebranding) i feel like there is not much happening.
For me it seems like people are not taking it serious and to change it they need to make some major marketing steps.
I still have some faith but I also starded questioning my position. Hope to witness something soon that will bring back my confidence  Wink
