i dont think so btc is the preliminary crypt currency of the day governments are already positioning themselves to have their own, Canada has already tested their own backed crypto currency.
The idea will live on, I think in 10 years btc will have eventually imploded.. spawning later advancements in security/ technological features to perfect crypto currencies from its current negatives
Government backed crypto as an advantage has to be the dumbest/trolliest thing said thus far on this thread.

If Canada creates a cryptocurrency that they completely control, who will mine it? If it doesn't need to be mined, and they just keep track of it in their own private centralized ledgers, then how is it different from the currency they have now? And if it requires mining, and Canada has no control over it, then how is it different from any other alt-coin knockoff?

Bitcoin will certainly reach more than $1000!! It's built on the correct principles! It will be fun to see the world's 'plantation dollars' as they are called become more and more worthless. Although as an economist I can tell you that I've been scared ever since I learned about bitcoin. It's not possible for it to be stopped anymore as the ideea already exists and it works. Even if bitcoin were to be destroyed (by governments, wars, etc), the ideea still exists and can't be stopped. The problem is with economic laws, specifically the 80-20 law. What happens when someone amasses a great amount of wealth? Usually people go and steal it, but what if you couldn't steal it? All these things will just make it rise in value and those who hold more of it become even wealthier. Not that the same isn't happening right now, but if someone's holding $10 million and the government prints a couple of $billion more, those $10million theoretically have just lost a portion of their value. No one can create more bitcoins than are programmed... So what do we do when the majority of bitcoins will be in the hands of a wealthy few? Will we start using other forms of crypto-currency? Go back to paper? Gold? Will we as a species give up the concept of money altogether after another series of horrible wars. The future is ahead of us, and anything could happen. We should be prepared for anything, good or bad!

Government backed crypto as an advantage has to be the dumbest/trolliest thing said thus far on this thread. Most stupid comment ever. Government won't support anything that they can't spy on, or anything that isn't beneficial to them.

The government has never solved a problem without causing more harm somewhere else first.
There is always a net loss with government.
The question you have to ask is "Will government relent, or will it continue to grow?"
Depending on how you answer that, part of the question is answered. Next look at when the next block reward halves. When that happens half the supply miners drop on the market to cover costs disappears and demand is the same the price goes up.

Definetely bitcoin will reach 1000 dollars! Of course there will be couple of bubbles before that, but eventually it will happen! To be optimistic, I'd say in one year from now. Anyway, I am not ready to invest too much on coin, and it has happend already that I have started to spend my "investment", and buy things. Last it was a hamburger...

It's not unrealistic for it too reach that amount. It might take a while to get there, and then might be longer till it stabilises past that.

Right now only few people use Bitcoin. If Bitcoin will be used as much as Facebook, $1000 is too cheap [/quote]
Completely agree. I think all big things have small beginnings. What are the current REAL goods and services that bitcoin is facilitating? I know that many sites are using it for online donations, which I considered a form of service.

the question is when? all we have to do is to wait for the last bitcoin mined and see the price. I've heard plenty of opinions that it will hit 1000$, I think BTC have an opportunity to hit more

That's going to be a VERY LONG wait. Just how long do you plan to live?

That's going to be a VERY LONG wait. Just how long do you plan to live? Unless we find a way to extend our livespan to 200years.. you and well all of us might just miss out on that last bitcoin that is going to get mined in the year ~2140.

It conceivably could, and it may happen sooner than we think, once we encounter another economic crisis.
Rather than bitcoin reaching $1,000, though, the number one thing I would like to see is wider adoption. While 2013 has done much to make more people aware of bitcoin, there are still countless others who see the price increase as a bubble with no underlying value (heck, I was one of them). Once bitcoin becomes more and more commonly used, even those naysayers cannot deny its place.

makes a lot of sense
and you can also see it that way: the less awareness it has, the more potential for a price rise bitcoin has
once there is mass awareness, the sentiment will be too bullish and then price may be on a plateau or even correct
= meaning technical analysis factors will LEAD the fundamental as it always has for bitcoin since we started to analyse it 3 years ago
