The fourth anniversary of Globalcoin is today... the first GLC block was mined today 4 years ago.

Where's the big birthday surprise? aside from the 10 BTC sell order @1000 satoshis?

I think according to the volume the last days there is coming something. BTC price plummeted and with this I am gonna buy some GLC as long as they are cheap.

Probably another coin which has the same 'magic' number (pchMessageStart) as GLC. A lot of the earlier cloned coins didn't change this, so clients end up cross-connecting between different coins. (Nothing more happens after the initial version exchange, since each coin has different, mismatched genesis blocks; they just connect then effectively ignore each other.)

Did a quick search for the numbers and there's at least a few other coins which have the same as GLC.

Is anyone here actually clued in as to what this whole "Global Holdings" thing is about?

Those are some pretty lavish looking events they're holding... and they are definitely promoting Globalcoin. The logo for Global Holdings is different to GLC but that's their "company" which apparently will use GLC for all their services?

Their other videos they clearly present GLC, and it is indeed this GLC from this thread, the same logo, specs and services (blockexplorer etc) is referenced, and the globalcoin.info site says it is owned by "Global Holdings" too...

I'm surprised with all the fuss they seem to be making around GLC that there's been no presence here nor anywhere else that I can find... and the price of GLC itself remains pretty flat...

So what's the deal then, is the developer still around, is anyone actually working on this coin or is it just being used in some expensive ponzi scam?

I think we should create a development fund, somebody with a good reputation would be responsible for all the transactions. So we would be able to hire a freelancer and switch GLC to POS as it was suggested by DigitalHoldings:

https://i.imgur.com/iwhqrco.jpg

I propose transitioning to Proof of Stake v3 with static block rewards. Rather than patching the current headache of a code base I suggest abandoning the old code, starting from a fresh code base, and manually importing balances into the new client. Of course this means starting over from block 0, so it's a bit more dramatic than just a hardfork, so community consensus is a must.

The issues with doing this in the past were the inability to transfer funds from old blockchain to new without the use of a middleman/exchange, people would often miss the transfer window and the possibility of tampering with the coin supply was there too. We can now however alleviate these issues by taking a snapshot of the current blockchain that can be parsed through to come up with a list of all addresses and their balances. A premine of the current coin supply calculated from the snapshot is made for the new client and then a mass sending of funds to the original addresses can be done. The new client will use the exact same key derivation methods, so users just need to move/copy their old wallet.dat file to the new clients directory and they'll have the same amount of coins as they held before. No middleman involved and the process is entirely transparent and verifiable, should someone wish to audit it.

I'll bring this back around... however additionally propose the stolen cryptsy funds be excluded from the new chain.
