Quite all right. I consider this derail to be relevant to the thread topic in general, as there are going to be people asking questions about replacement adapters in the near future...

Plugable 7 update. I awoke this morning to find green lights on 3 out of 7 erupters. Tried restarting cgminer, no joy. turned off cgminer, uplugged the power from the hub, restarted cgminer, plugged in the power to the hub. all working. I'm guessing that 7 erupters might be causing a marginal condition. If this happens again, i'll drop back to 6 erupters.

My plan is to connect the cables from any eventual failed powerbrick to the 5V output on the Molex connectors, observing polarity. It works for motherboards, harddisks and all that stuff that gets connected directly to the PSU, so it should work for a hub. Or am I wrong? SolidBitShop, that's a question for you. I did this with an old ac adapter and and an ATX power supply for my Juiced hub before I sent it back. Just remember you may be limited by the gauge of the wire on the ac adapter and, at the very least, by the 11A rated molex connector.

Ah, so 2 hubs per molex connector, then.

Table updated with new Plugable info. I am also restructuring the OP to accommodate a section on AC adapters. Today i got a Plugable 7 Port Hub and a Rosewill 10 port hub today. Although the Rosewill claims 4 amps, i couldn't get more then 6 Sticks to mine. and it wouldn't even let me daisy chain another Hub in the unused ports.
Just checked the Rosewill RHB-500 that you mentioned: http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-10-Port-High-Speed-RHB-500/dp/B004F38WT4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376766573&sr=8-1&keywords=rosewill+10+usb+huband was amazed to see that it looks exactly like ST-Lab U-500, which I reviewed earlier: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.msg2937808#msg2937808Mine also has 4A adapter, but it could run 8 BEs over a few hours, and is currently having 4 D-Link DUB-H7 chained off it, with 3 more on the way. Maybe yours has a faulty AD adapter? im going to have to recommend this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-USB-BTC-Miner-pbx-private-branch-exchange-10-Port-USB-Bitcoin-Mine-Machine/1165698958.htmli have one of those cheapy pluggable usb 10 hubs and guess what today it just died on me well the powered part of died it still works using the usb to the computer but can only power one usb and the fan i will order another as i only paid £5.99 for it on ebay and order the product above it can power 9 USB ASIC + My artic breeze fan = 3 Giga Hash it is USB 2.0 so when i set up my raspberry pi it will work on that too (currently just need a sd card + some time) If anyone is using this item at the moment please let me know Its called the OIMASTER FURTHER1 for the list. About that Oimaster... did you have any luck with it? It sounded as though you wanted other people's input on its capabilities. I can't find its amperage anywhere, even on the official site: http://www.oimaster.com/products/hb1001.html

I would like to power a 10 port hub with 5V 5A from my raidmax 850W psu. Which wires (from sata? or Pci-e?) do I need to connect to the hub?

Gaa, didn't see that! Was looking for specs text on all the sites that had them. I would like to power a 10 port hub with 5V 5A from my raidmax 850W psu. Which wires (from sata? or Pci-e?) do I need to connect to the hub?
If you connect to molex, you need black wire for (-) and red wire for (+) for 5V http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molexhttp://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.htmlMake sure that you observe the expected polarity of the hub (they usually state either on the adapter or on the hub what's on the inner and outer contact) Don't use SATA, unless you go by SATA-Molex and then connect to red/black, so that multiple SATA pins are properly aggregated. PCI-e is 12 V (unless that's what your hub expects): http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#pciexpressIn theory, you should also be able to draw from ATX main: http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain24

Updated the OP. See if I overlooked any mods. Oh and I saw this on MinePeon thread. Reposting: Did you make or bought the power cables from PSU to the HUB's? I'm also using one of those 10 ports HUB (with 9 USB Gizmos), with a Velleman multivolt, that gives 7,5 Amperes @ 5 volts.
Originally I ordered some 2.1mm connectors but they haven't arrived, being impatient I cut the 5V lines out of the molex connectors of the atx psu (bottom of pic) and soldered the 5V wires straight to the hub.. and plugged the fans into the molex (which now only has 12V lines). ATX PSU has 28A @ 5V 4X 20A @ 12V (Reserved for K16`s) Your idea is great... i "invented" a cable, but I'm connecting the 10 ports HUB to the HD molex cable and 2 or 3 of the Gizmos were in error... perhaps not enaph current... Better to connect again to the Velleman 7,5 amperes PU.

Where to begin... I am still working on the 40A 5VDC power supply + cheap usb hub project, it was going well at first but crashed and burned on me, not literally but... meh no good yet, I have a few other things I want to try before writing it off completely. I inadvertantly found that I have another hub to add to the list. This 7 port from Amazon has handled 5 Erupters in a suprisingly good fashion: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KUQ8FG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Finally, my personal experience with the aitech 10 port has been different then described, it has run with cards in all 10 ports with no issues all weekend. It looks like the generic version of Tek Republic TUH-2700. As another update it has run since the last post with 6 BE's. Also, I figured out the problem with the cheap 10-hub with the 5v 40a Regulated power supply, with the first hub I switched the ends and burned it out :-( I was able to get a second cheap 10-port to hum along swimmingly. This is similar to several others who have done the same thing, it is certainly the most economical option if you are brave. MM

Where did you get those USB fans Noitev? They look much longer then the Antec ones and a bit more finger friendly with that plastic sleeve.
